About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Technical Writer to join our documentation team and help users understand complex software products. You will translate product functionality, technical requirements, and complex workflows into clear, accurate, and well-structured documentation for end users and administrators.
The role involves working closely with Product, Engineering, QA, Design, and other cross-functional teams throughout the product release lifecycle. The ideal candidate is an independent, detail-oriented writer who can manage documentation from planning through publication and is comfortable using AI tools to improve documentation quality and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Create clear and accurate end-user and administrator documentation, including help articles, feature guides, onboarding content, user guides, and release notes.
- Understand product releases end-to-end by reviewing product requirements, UI specifications, Figma designs, engineering specifications, and technical collateral.
- Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, QA, Design, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and understand new features.
- Plan documentation before writing by developing content plans, documentation structures, and requirements.
- Get hands-on with software products and product builds to validate workflows, features, UI elements, and documented procedures.
- Manage documentation through Agile/sprint-based release cycles, including release candidates, code freezes, and GA milestones.
- Use AI writing tools to improve documentation efficiency, quality, research, and content workflows while maintaining editorial accuracy and standards.
- Apply established style guides, editorial standards, voice and tone principles consistently across all documentation.
- Manage stakeholder review cycles, incorporate feedback, track approvals, and resolve conflicting inputs professionally.
- Develop and maintain content architecture and information architecture, ensuring documentation is logically structured, grouped, and linked.
- Create documentation that is clear and localization/translation-ready for a global audience.
- Use documentation analytics and content-performance data such as page views, search behavior, search deflection, low-rated articles, and search-with-no-results data to identify content gaps and improve documentation.
- Independently manage multiple documentation workstreams while meeting release timelines and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant experience in technical writing, with strong preference for candidates with extensive software/product documentation experience.
- Proven experience creating software product documentation, rather than primarily marketing, blog, SEO, social media, or brand content.
- Strong experience with end-user, administrator, product, help-center, or knowledge-base documentation.
- Experience working with Product, Engineering, QA, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/sprint-based release processes.
- Experience working within style guides, editorial frameworks, and documentation standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand complex technical concepts and explain them clearly.
- Ability to independently manage documentation projects from planning through review, approval, and publication.
- Demonstrated experience using AI writing tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, or equivalent in a practical documentation workflow.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies, inaccurate steps, UI terminology issues, and documentation gaps.
Good to Have
- Experience with DITA, XML, Oxygen XML, Markdown, or docs-as-code workflows.
- Experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Confluence, SharePoint, or other CMS/authoring platforms.
- Familiarity with Git/version control, Jira, Workfront, and Figma.
- Experience with content analytics and documentation performance measurement.
- Experience with content architecture / information architecture.
- Experience documenting products for global or localized audiences.
- Experience with API/developer documentation or technical documentation for SaaS/product platforms.
- Experience working in a large-scale software/product organization.
What We're Looking For
- Excellent technical writing and editing skills.
- Strong ability to collaborate with engineers and product teams.
- Curious mindset with the ability to understand how and why a product feature works before documenting it.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable handling ambiguity and proactively identifying documentation requirements and gaps.
- Ability to professionally challenge unclear requirements or conflicting feedback.
- Strong ownership, organization, and deadline-management skills.
- A user-focused approach to documentation with a strong emphasis on clarity, accuracy, usability, and consistency.
