Subject Matter Expert (SME) Architect – Oil & Gas / Hydrocarbon EPC

Overview
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) Architect will lead architectural for Oil & Gas / Hydrocarbon EPC projects, ensuring end-to-end engineering deliverables comply with ITB/FEED, client specifications, applicable Middle East regulations, and project philosophy. The SME serves as the technical focal point for architectural scope, with mandatory expertise in blast-resistant/blast-rated and fire-rated building requirements, delivering high-quality Revit-based outputs and supporting client/PMC reviews and site execution.
Key Responsibilities
- ITB/FEED Implementation & EPC Technical Governance
- Interpret and implement ITB documents, FEED drawings, Design Basis, and client specifications into detailed engineering deliverables.
- Lead architectural team across EPC phases: detailed engineering, IFC, and as-built documentation.
- Provide technical oversight for blast-resistant/blast-rated and fire-rated architectural requirements, interfaces and detailing.
- Review architectural drawings and Revit models for code compliance, constructability, maintainability, and adherence to project standards.
- Conduct interdisciplinary design reviews; identify and mitigate design risks and gaps.
- Drive formal comment resolution from client reviews and ensure timely closure.
- Coordinate architectural interfaces with Civil/Structural, MEP, E&I, and other disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Review and validate MTO/BOQ for architectural/building works; ensure accuracy and scope completeness.
- Support value engineering, scope optimization, and design change impact assessment.
- Serve as architectural interface with Client/PMC and execution teams for design clarifications, RFIs, technical queries, and site support.
- Define/maintain architectural standards, typical details, checklists, and QA gates for consistent delivery.
- Mentor and guide architects to enhance quality, productivity, and compliance.
Qualifications
- B.Arch (mandatory); M.Arch / PG qualification (preferred).
- 12–15 years of experience in Oil & Gas / Hydrocarbon EPC projects (mandatory).
- Middle East project experience (mandatory) with exposure to regional codes/authority expectations and client workflows.
- Mandatory hands-on experience in: Blast-resistant/blast-rated and fire-rated architectural requirements
- Strong experience delivering/reviewing IFC packages and handling multidisciplinary coordination.
Skills
- O&G EPC Competency: FEED-to-EPC translation, design basis compliance, constructability, maintainability, safety-in-design.
- BIM & Deliverables: Revit (advanced), AutoCAD; strong model/drawing review discipline and coordination workflows.
- Commercial/Quantity: MTO/BOQ review & validation, change impact understanding.
- Leadership: Technical decision-making, stakeholder communication (Client/PMC), mentoring, quality and risk mindset
