About the job
Position: Embedded System Engineer
Experience: 5+ Years
Industry: Automotive / Electric Vehicles (EV) / Automotive R&D
Location: Bangalore
Employment Type: Full-Time
Role Overview
We are seeking a versatile Embedded Systems Engineer to join our R&D team. This role is strictly technical and hands-on, requiring a "full-stack" approach to hardware, moving seamlessly between PCB design in KiCad and firmware development in C/C++. We have aa diverse range of projects, from highly cost-sensitive consumer designs to high performance industrial integrations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Hardware Development: Design, schematic capture, and layout of multi-layer PCBs using KiCad.
2. Firmware Engineering: Write, test, and maintain robust code for various microcontrollers such as STM32, STM8, Attiny, ESP8266, ESP32, PIC16F, ATMEL ATMEGA, etc.
3. System Integration: Implement and debug various communication protocols including CAN bus, MQTT, BLE, SPI, UART, I2C, and USB.
4. Power & Analog Design: Design driver circuits for motor, conditional circuits for sensors, components selection and integration.
5. Network & API: Define and implement communication protocols for data transfer to servers, collaborating with the software team to establish API structures.
6. Testing & Debugging: Perform full board bring-up and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and DMMs.
Technical Requirements
1. MCU Architecture: Strong knowledge of STM32 (including DFU and bootloaders) as well as STM8, ATTINY, ATMEL ATMEGA Microcontrollers
2. Prototyping: Demonstrated ability to take a concept from a breadboard to a finished, routed PCB.
3. Optimization: Ability to perform component selection based on varying project constraints, from price optimization to high performance quality depending on each project specific requirements.
4. HMI & Storage: Experience integrating displays such as but not limited to TFT / OLED / LCD, input methods, external storage (SD cards) and on board storage ICs.
5. Software: Proficiency in C, C++, and Python for firmware and auxiliary tooling.
Preferred Attributes
1. R&D Mindset: Ability to generate unique ideas and solve complex technical challenges.
2. Adaptability: Comfortable switching between different project scales and technical requirements.
3. Precision: Detail-oriented regarding signal integrity, power management, and debugging.
4. Problem Solving: In this R&D position, we build solutions that do not exist. When faced with a not possible scenario, Engineer first instinct should be to analyze the physics and logic to find a workaround or a unique implementation.
5. First Principles Thinking: Ability to break down complex problems into basic elements to create custom solutions when off the shelf components or standard methods fail.
6. Proactive Research: A habit of investigating new technologies, unconventional component uses, and emerging methodologies to solve unique hardware/firmware bottlenecks.
R&D expectations
In our department, we don't just implement what is already available, we create what isn't. We are looking for an engineer who understands that “Does not exist” is a requirement, not an excuse. The applicant should be comfortable with ambiguity and possess the technical confidence to experiment, fail fast, and eventually engineer a way forward where standard documentation ends.
