Job Summary
The Senior OT Staff Nurse is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative nursing care. The role includes preparing the operation theatre, assisting surgeons and anesthetists during procedures, maintaining sterility, supervising junior OT staff, ensuring proper documentation, and managing OT equipment and supplies.
Key Responsibilities1. Patient Care
- Receive and verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site before surgery.
- Prepare patients physically and psychologically for surgical procedures.
- Ensure patient safety throughout the perioperative period.
- Assist in patient positioning according to surgical requirements.
- Monitor patient condition and communicate any concerns promptly.
2. Operation Theatre Management
- Prepare and maintain the OT before, during, and after surgeries.
- Ensure strict aseptic and sterile techniques are followed.
- Arrange surgical instruments, equipment, implants, and consumables.
- Ensure all OT equipment is functional before procedures.
- Coordinate OT scheduling for smooth workflow.
3. Surgical Assistance
- Perform duties as Scrub Nurse and Circulating Nurse.
- Assist surgeons during all surgical procedures.
- Assist anesthetists during induction and recovery.
- Maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts before, during, and after surgery.
- Ensure specimens are labeled and sent correctly to the laboratory.
4. Infection Prevention & Control
- Adhere to infection control protocols.
- Maintain sterilization standards.
- Ensure biomedical waste segregation according to hospital policy.
- Monitor OT cleanliness and environmental hygiene.
5. Documentation
- Complete OT nursing records accurately.
- Maintain instrument count records.
- Record implants and consumables used.
- Report incidents, complications, or equipment failures immediately.
6. Equipment & Inventory
- Monitor availability of OT supplies and medications.
- Ensure preventive maintenance of OT equipment.
- Report faulty equipment for repair.
- Maintain stock registers and inventory records.
7. Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise junior OT nurses and OT technicians.
- Allocate duties among OT staff.
- Train newly recruited OT personnel.
- Ensure discipline and adherence to hospital policies.
- Conduct orientation and competency assessments when required.
8. Emergency Responsibilities
- Assist during emergency surgeries.
- Maintain readiness of emergency drugs and equipment.
- Participate in disaster management and emergency response protocols.
9. Quality & Safety
- Follow NABH standards and hospital protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with patient safety goals.
- Participate in clinical audits and infection control audits.
10. Communication
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, CSSD, laboratory, radiology, and other departments.
- Communicate effectively with patients and relatives when required.
- Participate in departmental meetings and educational programs.
Qualification
- B.Sc. Nursing or GNM from a recognized institution.
- Registered Nurse and Midwife (RN/RM) with valid State Nursing Council registration.
Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of Operation Theatre experience.
- At least 2 years in a senior or supervisory OT role preferred.
- Experience in handling major surgeries across multiple specialties is desirable.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
