Job Summary:
We are seeking a Lab Assistant for the Metallurgical Engineering Department to support laboratory operations, practical sessions, and material testing activities. The candidate will assist faculty members in conducting laboratory classes, preparing materials and equipment, guiding students during experiments, and maintaining laboratory instruments and safety standards. The role requires basic technical knowledge in metallurgy, material testing, laboratory practices, and equipment handling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist faculty members in conducting practical classes and laboratory sessions for Metallurgical Engineering students.
- Prepare laboratory equipment, specimens, chemicals, tools, and testing materials before practical sessions.
- Support students during material testing, metallurgical analysis, laboratory experiments, project work, and practical examinations.
- Demonstrate proper handling and operation of laboratory instruments, testing equipment, and metallurgical processes.
- Assist in sample preparation, metallographic testing, heat treatment, and material analysis activities.
- Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, servicing, and safe operation of laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Identify equipment faults and coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain records of laboratory inventory, consumables, specimens, equipment usage, and maintenance schedules.
- Monitor laboratory activities and ensure adherence to safety procedures and laboratory discipline.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within laboratory premises.
- Assist in organizing workshops and other departmental technical activities.
- Coordinate with faculty members and department staff for the smooth functioning of laboratory activities.
Desired Candidate Qualification
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Metallurgy / Equivalent or B.Sc in Physics / Chemistry – mandatory.
- 1–3 years of experience in laboratory assistance or technical support activities.
- Basic knowledge of metallurgy, material testing, laboratory practices, and equipment handling.
- Ability to handle laboratory instruments and assist students during practical sessions effectively.
- Good understanding of laboratory safety standards and maintenance procedures.
- Basic computer knowledge and documentation skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to maintain records and laboratory documentation accurately.
- Experience in educational institutions/polytechnic/engineering colleges is preferred.
