Laboratory Technician – Job Roles & Responsibilities
A Laboratory Technician is responsible for collecting, processing, testing, and reporting patient samples while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect blood and other clinical samples (urine, sputum, stool, swabs, etc.).
- Label and process specimens accurately.
- Perform laboratory investigations in:
- Hematology
- Clinical Biochemistry
- Microbiology
- Serology
- Clinical Pathology
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Perform internal quality control (IQC) and assist with external quality assurance (EQAS).
- Record and verify test results before reporting.
- Inform doctors immediately about critical or abnormal values.
- Maintain laboratory registers and documentation.
- Follow infection control and biosafety protocols.
- Segregate and dispose of biomedical waste according to regulations.
- Maintain inventory of reagents and laboratory consumables.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
- Assist in NABH/NABL documentation and audits.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Participate in emergency and night duties as required.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques and instruments.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Computer skills for Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Ability to work under pressure and as part of a healthcare team.
Qualification
- DMLT / B.Sc. MLT (or equivalent recognized qualification).
- Registration with the appropriate authority, where applicable.
Reporting
- Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager / Pathologist.
- Works closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Pay: From ₹10,000.00 per month
