JOB PROFILE: AutoCAD Draftsman – Furniture & Interior Design
Department: Design / Projects
Reports To: Design Head / Project Manager
Location: Dimensions Furniture
Experience: 2–5 years preferred
Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Civil Engineering or relevant field
1. JOB PURPOSE
To prepare accurate and detailed AutoCAD drawings for furniture, interiors and customised projects, including site visits, measurements, furniture layouts, working drawings, production drawings and installation drawings, ensuring that every drawing is practical, technically correct and ready for execution.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESA. Site Visits & Measurements
- Visit customer sites for physical measurements and site assessment.
- Take accurate measurements of rooms, walls, doors, windows, columns, beams, electrical points, plumbing points and other relevant site conditions.
- Record site dimensions using standard measurement formats.
- Take photographs/videos of the site wherever required for reference.
- Identify site constraints that may affect furniture design, delivery or installation.
- Cross-check measurements before preparing final drawings.
- Coordinate with the sales/design team regarding customer requirements and site conditions.
B. AutoCAD Drafting
- Prepare accurate 2D AutoCAD drawings based on site measurements and approved designs.
- Prepare:
- Furniture layouts
- Floor plans
- Elevations
- Sections
- Furniture details
- Wall elevations
- Ceiling-related drawings where required
- Joinery details
- Electrical/lighting coordination drawings where applicable
- Prepare detailed drawings for customised furniture such as:
- Sofas
- Beds
- Wardrobes
- TV units
- Dining units
- Consoles
- Bar units
- Storage units
- Modular/custom furniture
- Outdoor furniture
- Other bespoke products
C. Production / Working Drawings
- Convert approved designs into production-ready drawings.
- Clearly mention all required dimensions, materials, finishes, hardware and construction details.
- Provide sufficient technical information for the factory/vendor/carpenter to execute the product correctly.
- Prepare exploded/detail drawings wherever required.
- Coordinate with production and procurement teams to ensure drawings are technically feasible.
- Make revisions based on production feedback.
D. Custom Furniture Development
- Work closely with the sales and design teams to convert customer requirements into technically feasible furniture.
- Develop customised furniture dimensions based on site conditions.
- Suggest practical modifications when the customer's requested design is not technically feasible.
- Ensure furniture dimensions allow for delivery, staircase/lift access, installation and usage.
E. Site Coordination & Installation
- Visit sites during installation when required.
- Verify that the furniture being delivered matches the approved drawing and site dimensions.
- Coordinate with installation teams regarding technical drawings and dimensions.
- Resolve site-level drawing/dimension issues in coordination with the Design Head/Project Manager.
- Make necessary as-built corrections after installation.
F. Documentation & Drawing Control
- Maintain an organised system of:
- Site measurement sheets
- CAD files
- Approved drawings
- Revised drawings
- Production drawings
- Installation drawings
- Maintain proper revision numbers and dates on every drawing.
- Ensure that only the latest approved drawing is released for production.
- Maintain a project-wise digital drawing folder.
3. COORDINATION WITH OTHER TEAMS
The Draftsman will work closely with:
Sales Team
- Understand customer requirements and product specifications.
Interior Designers
- Convert design concepts into technical drawings.
Project Manager
- Coordinate timelines, site requirements, and execution.
Production/Vendors
- Ensure drawings are technically executable.
Purchase Team
- Clarify material, hardware and specification requirements.
Installation Team
- Provide drawings and resolve site execution issues.
4. ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
- Ability to read and understand architectural/interior drawings.
- Strong understanding of furniture dimensions and ergonomics.
- Excellent measurement and detailing skills.
- Understanding of materials such as wood, plywood, MDF, veneer, glass, metal, marble, upholstery etc.
- Understanding of furniture construction and joinery.
- Good spatial understanding.
- Ability to identify discrepancies between drawings and actual site conditions.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under deadlines.
Preferred: Knowledge of SketchUp, 3D software, Revit or other design software.

- Coordination effectiveness with sales, design, production and installation teams.
6. IMPORTANT EXPECTATION FROM THE ROLE
This is not only a computer drafting job.
The person should be capable of going from:
Customer Requirement → Site Visit → Measurement → AutoCAD Drawing → Design Approval → Production Drawing → Production Coordination → Site Installation → Final Correction
The draftsman should take ownership of the technical accuracy of the project and ensure that what is finally produced and installed matches the approved design and site conditions.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
