V7 Defence Industries Private Limited is looking for an Automation Engineer – Mechanical/Automation to join our Design & Engineering team. The role involves designing and developing Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), automated assembly systems, packaging machinery, and industrial equipment.
The candidate will be involved in the complete machine development cycle, including 3D modelling, mechanical design, engineering drawings, automation component selection, BOM preparation, assembly, testing, commissioning, and site deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) and automated machinery.
- Create mechanical layouts for indexing tables, pick-and-place systems, feeders, conveyors, and automated assembly/packaging modules.
- Develop 3D models, assemblies, layouts, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Select and integrate components such as servo motors, stepper motors, gearboxes, sensors, actuators, and other automation components.
- Design and integrate pneumatic and hydraulic systems where required.
- Prepare and maintain accurate Engineering BOMs (EBOMs).
- Select standard components from suppliers such as Festo, SMC, MISUMI, THK, and similar manufacturers.
- Make design modifications based on project requirements, testing, and feedback.
- Work closely with Electrical, PLC/Automation, Production, Procurement, Quality, and Project teams.
- Participate in machine assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design validation.
- Support installation, commissioning, and deployment at customer/project sites when required.
- Maintain proper design documentation and revision records.
- Ensure designs meet project requirements, manufacturing feasibility, quality, safety, and performance standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related engineering discipline.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and industrial automation.
- Experience in designing Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), custom assembly machines, packaging machinery, or automated equipment.
- Proficiency in Solid Edge, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar 3D CAD software.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design and engineering drawing practices.
- Good understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of servo motors, stepper motors, gearboxes, sensors, actuators, and linear motion systems.
- Understanding of how PLCs, HMIs, and motion controllers interact with mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of BOM preparation and standard component selection.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work within project timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automated assembly or packaging machinery.
- Experience with machine assembly, testing, and commissioning.
- Knowledge of industrial networking protocols.
- Experience with Festo, SMC, MISUMI, THK, or similar industrial components.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on engineering role involving both design-office and shop-floor activities. The candidate may be required to work closely with the assembly and production teams and travel to project/customer sites for installation, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
