We are looking for an empathetic, confident, and result-oriented OPD Counsellor to guide patients through their treatment journey and facilitate admissions whenever inpatient care is recommended.
Position Summary
The OPD Counsellor will work closely with consultants, patients, and their families to explain treatment plans, answer queries, discuss admission procedures, and help patients make informed decisions. The role focuses on improving patient experience while increasing the conversion of eligible OPD patients into inpatient (IP) admissions.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Counselling
- Meet patients after consultation with the doctor whenever admission or surgery is recommended.
- Explain the proposed treatment plan, procedures, expected outcomes, and hospital facilities.
- Address patient and family concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Build confidence and trust to help patients make informed healthcare decisions.
Admission Conversion
- Counsel patients regarding the benefits of timely admission and treatment.
- Coordinate with doctors and departments to facilitate immediate or planned admissions.
- Follow up with patients who wish to decide later and encourage timely treatment.
- Maintain and improve OPD-to-IP conversion rates.
Financial Counselling
- Explain estimated treatment costs, room categories, insurance, TPA, and payment options.
- Coordinate with the billing and insurance departments for estimates and approvals.
- Assist patients in understanding available health packages and payment processes.
Coordination
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff, admission desk, billing, insurance, and diagnostic departments.
- Ensure smooth patient movement from OPD to IP admission.
- Arrange admission documentation and bed allocation in coordination with the admissions team.
Patient Relationship Management
- Provide a personalized experience throughout the admission process.
- Follow up with patients regarding scheduled procedures and surgeries.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of patient care.
Reporting
- Maintain daily records of patient interactions and admission conversions.
- Prepare reports on OPD-to-IP conversion rates and follow-up outcomes.
- Share feedback and patient concerns with the management team to improve services.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
- MBA (Hospital Management/Healthcare Management/Marketing) or a degree in Hospital Administration is preferred.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in hospital patient counselling, admissions, business development, or patient relationship management.
- Experience in a multi-speciality or super speciality hospital is highly preferred.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and counselling skills.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to build trust with patients and their families.
- Good understanding of hospital operations and patient care pathways.
- Knowledge of hospital billing, insurance, and TPA processes.
- Proficiency in Hospital Information Systems (HIS/HMS) and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining empathy and professionalism.
