Role Summary: The position is responsible for ensuring that all fabrication and machining activities comply with applicable drawings, specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. The role involves inspection planning, NDT coordination, dimensional verification, documentation control, and ensuring adherence to quality management systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inspection & Quality Assurance
▪ Conduct in-process and final inspection of fabricated and machined components.
▪ Verify dimensions, tolerances, fit-up, alignment, and surface finish as per drawings.
▪ Ensure compliance with ASME/RCC-MR/ ISO / customer specifications where applicable.
2. Fabrication Quality Control
▪ Monitor quality during plate cutting, bending, rolling, welding, and assembly operations.
▪ Verify WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
3. Machining Inspection
▪ Inspect machined components using precision measuring instruments such as:
o Vernier Calliper o Micrometer o Height Gauge o Bore Gauge o Dial Indicator
o Surface Roughness Tester o CMM o Verify GD&T requirements where applicable.
4. NDT Coordination
▪Perform or coordinate Non-Destructive Testing including:
oVisual Testing (VT)
oUltrasonic Testing (UT)
oRadiographic Testing (RT)
oDye Penetrant Testing (PT)
▪ Ensure NDT reports comply with relevant standards.
5. Documentation & Quality Records
▪ Maintain inspection records, QAP/ITP, inspection reports, and NDT reports.
▪ Prepare Quality dossiers / Manufacturing record books (MRB) for customer submission.
▪ Handle NCRs, corrective actions, and root cause analysis.
▪ Inspect weld joints for visual quality and compliance before and after welding.
6. Customer & Third-Party Inspection
▪ Coordinate with customer inspectors and third-party inspection agencies.
▪ Arrange stage inspections and ensure readiness of documents.
7. Calibration & Quality Systems
▪ Ensure calibration of measuring instruments.
▪ Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
▪ Participate in internal and external audits.
8. Team Coordination
▪ Guide junior QC inspector.
▪ Work closely with production, planning, and welding teams to resolve quality issues.
Required Skills
▪ Strong knowledge of fabrication drawings and machining drawings.
▪ Understanding of welding processes and weld inspection.
▪ Familiarity with ASME, RCC-MR ISO, or fabrication standards.
▪ Experience in heavy plates, shells, structures, or pressure components.
▪ Good knowledge of dimensional inspection and NDT techniques.
▪ Strong documentation and reporting skills.
Preferred Experience
▪ Experience in heavy fabrication projects such as pressure vessels, reactors, shells, or large structural components.
▪ Exposure to third-party inspections and international project standards.
▪ Knowledge of ITER / nuclear / high-precision fabrication projects is an added advantage.
