Job Summary:
We are seeking a Technical Assistant for the Apparel and Fashion Design (A & FD) Department to support laboratory operations, practical sessions, garment construction activities, and departmental technical work. The candidate will assist faculty members in conducting practical classes, guide students in handling apparel and fashion equipment, and ensure smooth functioning of laboratories and studios. The role requires sound knowledge of garment construction, textile materials, fashion tools, and laboratory maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist faculty members in conducting practical classes and laboratory sessions for Apparel and Fashion Design students.
- Prepare sewing machines, dress forms, cutting tools, fabrics, and laboratory materials before practical sessions.
- Support students in garment construction, pattern making, stitching, draping, embroidery, fashion illustration, apparel production, and other fashion-related practical activities.
- Demonstrate the operation and handling of sewing machines, garment equipment, and fashion laboratory tools.
- Ensure proper maintenance, servicing, calibration, and safe operation of laboratory equipment and machines.
- Maintain records of laboratory inventory, fabrics, consumables, equipment usage, and maintenance schedules.
- Monitor laboratory activities and ensure adherence to safety procedures and laboratory discipline.
- Support project work, fashion exhibitions, workshops, competitions, and practical examinations conducted by the department.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within laboratory and studio premises.
- Coordinate with faculty members and department staff for the smooth functioning of laboratory activities.
Desired Candidate Qualification
- Diploma in Apparel Technology / Fashion Technology or B.Sc in Costume Designing and Fashion / Textiles and Apparel Designing – mandatory.
- 2–5 years of experience in apparel, fashion laboratories, garment production, or related technical support activities.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, textile materials, fashion tools, and apparel production techniques.
- Ability to handle sewing machines, cutting tools, and laboratory equipment effectively.
- Basic understanding of pattern making, stitching, draping, and garment finishing processes.
- Good knowledge of laboratory safety standards and equipment maintenance procedures.
- Basic computer knowledge and documentation skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to assist students during practical sessions, projects, and exhibitions effectively.
- Experience in educational institutions/polytechnic/engineering colleges is preferred.
