Job Title: L2 Network Engineer
Role Overview: As an L2 Network Engineer, you will serve as a critical escalation point, working with a variety of network devices and services—including routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless access points—to ensure a robust, secure, and optimized IT environment for our clients. You will be responsible for the configuration, functionality, and performance of both network infrastructure and core Windows Server services. This role requires a strong technical foundation, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to guide junior team members while ensuring the highest standards of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Network Administration & Troubleshooting
- Device Management: Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Network Integration: Implement and manage VLANs, VPNs, routing protocols, and firewall policies.
- Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex LAN/WAN, internet connectivity, and Wi-Fi performance issues.
- Deployment: Support on-site network deployments, physical device installations, and seamless integration activities.
Systems Administration
- Active Directory: Configure and administer AD, including user/group management and Organizational Unit (OU) structuring.
- Group Policies: Create, modify, and troubleshoot GPOs to enforce security and system configurations.
- Core Services: Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot DNS and DHCP services within Windows Server environments.
- Server Maintenance: Perform basic Windows Server administration, patching, and routine maintenance activities.
Operations & Support
- Escalation Management: Act as the primary L2 escalation point for network and system-related incidents raised by the L1 support team.
- Monitoring: Track network performance and availability using enterprise tools (e.g., PRTG, SolarWinds).
- Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with ISPs, OEMs, and internal teams for prompt issue resolution and service delivery.
- SLA Compliance: Take complete ownership of incidents, ensuring timely closure and adherence to defined Service Level Agreements.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation, including network diagrams, IP allocation plans, AD structures, and issue logs.
- Mentorship: Support and provide technical guidance to L1 engineers to improve first-call resolution rates.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 2–3 years of hands-on experience managing networking and Windows Server environments.
- Certifications: CCNA certification is preferred (or mandatory, subject to company policy).
Core Technical Competencies:
- Strong grasp of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, and Layer 2/Layer 3 networking concepts.
- Solid foundation in switching and routing.
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in firewall and VPN configurations (e.g., Fortinet, Sophos, Cisco).
- Hands-on Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and GPO administration.
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring tools and ticketing systems (e.g., Zoho, ServiceNow).
Added Advantages (Preferred)
- Cloud Technologies: Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure / AWS) and basic cloud networking principles.
- Cybersecurity: Knowledge or hands-on experience with EDR solutions (CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender) and DLP solutions.
- Automation: Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell / Python) for task automation.
- Advanced Wireless: Experience in complex Wi-Fi deployments or enterprise network integration environments.
