Job Summary
The Injection Molding Machine Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining injection molding machines to produce high-quality plastic components according to production schedules and quality standards. The operator must ensure safe machine operation, minimize production defects, and maintain workplace cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate injection molding machines as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Start up, shut down, and monitor machine operations during the shift.
- Load and unload raw materials (plastic granules) as required.
- Inspect molded parts for defects such as flash, short shot, sink marks, burn marks, bubbles, and color variation.
- Remove defective products and report quality issues immediately.
- Trim excess plastic (flash) from molded parts when required.
- Pack finished products according to company standards.
- Record production quantity, rejection quantity, and downtime in production records.
- Maintain machine cleanliness and surrounding work area using 5S practices.
- Follow all safety rules and wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Inform the supervisor immediately about machine breakdowns, abnormal sounds, or process issues.
- Assist the maintenance team during machine servicing.
- Ensure proper material handling and avoid wastage of raw materials.
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining quality standards.
- Follow ISO, quality management, and factory safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of injection molding machine operations.
- Understanding of plastic molding defects and quality inspection.
- Ability to use measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers and gauges (preferred).
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in rotational shifts.
- Physically fit to stand for long periods and handle production activities.
- Basic understanding of production documentation.
Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma / 10th / 12th Pass.
- Experience in injection molding operations preferred.
- Freshers may apply (training will be provided).
Experience
- 0–3 years in plastic injection molding or manufacturing.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Daily production target achievement.
- Rejection percentage within acceptable limits.
- Machine uptime and efficiency.
- Compliance with safety rules.
- Attendance and punctuality.
- Housekeeping (5S) compliance.
- Proper production record maintenance.
Safety Responsibilities
- Wear safety shoes, gloves, ear protection, and other required PPE.
- Never operate a machine without authorization.
- Do not bypass machine safety interlocks.
- Report accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance.
- Keep emergency exits and fire extinguishers accessible at all times.
