Job Title: QA/QC Engineer – Oceanographic Systems
Location: Chennai
Department: Varya Buoy
Role Overview:
Own quality, reliability, and field performance of oceanographic buoy systems
deployed offshore. You will bridge design and real-world execution — from
fabrication checks to vessel-based deployment and post-retrieval analysis. Your work
directly drives data credibility and system survivability in open-sea conditions.
Why Join This Role
End-to-end ownership: Design validation → offshore deployment → data QC
Real vessel operations, not desk QA. Approx 30-40% offshore travel
annually Influence design improvements using field data from deployments
Clear growth path to Lead QA/QC - Marine Systems within 3 years
Offshore allowances + Outstation Allowances as per company policy
Extensive General & Group Health Insurance Policy
Key Responsibilities:
1. QA/QC & Fabrication Oversight
Develop ITPs, inspection checklists, and witness FAT/SAT for buoy hulls, pressure
housings, acoustic releases, power systems, and data loggers. Ensure ISO 9001
and marine standards compliance.
2. Offshore Deployment & Field QA
Mobilize as QA/QC lead on vessels. Conduct pre-deployment validation: mooring
load tests, buoyancy checks, watertight integrity, telemetry. Supervise deck ops and
enforce SOPs, JSA, PTW, HSE protocols during deployment/retrieval.
3. Post-Deployment & Data Quality
Lead inspections for biofouling, mechanical wear, damage. Secure raw data, run
first-level QC, and flag anomalies to engineering.
4. Continuous Improvement
Review designs for open-ocean survivability. Drive RCA/CAPA for failures, data
gaps, system losses. Standardize field procedures and QA templates.
Essentials:
B.E/B.Tech in Ocean, Marine, Mechanical, Electronics, or Instrumentation
5+ years in marine QA/QC, offshore ops, or oceanographic instrumentation
Strong grasp of mooring dynamics, pressure housing tests, sensors like CTD,
ADCP, wave/metocean systems
ISO 9001, AutoCAD/SolidWorks review, Excel-based ITPs
Medical fitness for extended offshore deployments
Strongly Preferred
Hands-on buoy or mooring system experience
Exposure to DNV/API marine standards, telemetry systems, data logging
Basic MATLAB/Python for QC analysis
Prior vessel time: research ships, offshore surveys, or Oil & Gas Or marine
operations (Added Advantage)
Impact
Your QA ensures reliable ocean data, safer offshore ops, and longer-lasting systems.
