Job Summary
The Biomedical Engineer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of medical equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and minimizing equipment downtime to support uninterrupted patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, test, and maintain biomedical equipment across departments (ICU, OT, Lab, Radiology, Wards, etc.)
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and calibration of equipment as per schedule
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; carry out repairs or coordinate with vendors/OEMs
- Maintain equipment inventory, service records, and maintenance logs
- Ensure compliance with biomedical equipment safety standards and hospital protocols
- Coordinate with vendors for annual maintenance contracts (AMC), warranty service, and spare parts procurement
- Train hospital staff on proper handling and basic troubleshooting of medical equipment
- Support equipment installation and commissioning for new purchases
- Assist in budgeting and planning for equipment upgrades/replacements
- Maintain documentation for audits, NABH/accreditation, and regulatory compliance
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdown calls, including emergencies
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Biomedical Engineer in a hospital
- Diploma/Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field
- Working knowledge of medical equipment such as ventilators, monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps, X-ray/imaging equipment, etc.
- Basic understanding of electrical and electronic systems relevant to medical devices
- Ability to read technical manuals and service documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and coordination skills with clinical staff and vendors
