A fashion buyer is someone who plans and selects garments and clothing ranges to sell in clothing stores and online. Before making their decisions, a buyer must consider factors such as customer demand, price points and market trends. As well as selecting new ranges, a fashion buyer must also review current stock at regular intervals and decide whether to replenish.
Essential Functions:
- Drive assortment optimization for buying responsibilities within the Buyers total area of business
- Reconcile on order/ reorder / Return to Vendor (RTV) with receipt plan. Utilize ORV to update shipping log on weekly basis
- Identify and maximize financial opportunities / minimize liabilities on total business
- Run, analyze, and send weekly department and vendor selling reports, prep information for market
- Manage Vendor Linelists / Review Affinity export / order confirmations, reconcile variances and submit POs
- Utilize Affinity/PDF to create accurate style records in system with regards to class, subclass, master style, etc.
Proactively reach out to vendors for all needs regarding PO entry, shipping details, and order reconciliation. Oversee new vendor setups and guidelines, Manage all packages/deliveries.
Maintain an up-to-date order management system in collaboration with Buyer. Maintain a visual on order packet and track all routing.Build styles and enter POs upon approval with needed urgency. Seek approval from buyer or vendor on daily updates.Partner with the Allocation and Planning team to assist in store allocation and distribution.
Extensive and consistent deep dives into the standard and plus size competitive landscape. Recap upcoming trends in style, color, and silo with the ability to translate through our guest filter.Proactively seek out knowledge and understanding of correlating trends that will aid in driving the overall business (social/email/etc.).
Day to day, a fashion buyer will carry out a range of different activities. Analysing consumer buying patterns and predicting future trends are two important responsibilities for any fashion buyer. Other activities will include managing stock level plans, meeting suppliers for contract negotiation, attending trade fairs and helping with promotional activities. Of course, the time of year will greatly affect the tasks a fashion buyer must priorities. Fashion buyers will usually be based in the head office, Typical employers include department stores, high street chains and online retailers.
