JOB DESCRIPTION – MW ENGINEER (TUMBLEWEED)

ROLE SUMMARY
The Professional Middleware Engineer specializing in Tumbleweed serves as the senior technical authority for enterprise Managed File Transfer (MFT) infrastructure. This role leads platform strategy, drives automation and compliance initiatives, and mentors the MFT engineering team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Architect and govern enterprise MFT strategy using Tumbleweed/Axway and complementary platforms
- Lead complex MFT integration projects including B2B onboarding, protocol migrations, and platform upgrades
- Define MFT standards, security policies, and compliance frameworks for the organization
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on MFT best practices, troubleshooting, and automation
- Drive automation of file transfer workflows, monitoring, and alerting using scripting and orchestration tools
- Collaborate with security, compliance, and audit teams to ensure MFT platforms meet regulatory requirements
- Evaluate and recommend new MFT capabilities, toolchain improvements, and vendor roadmap alignment
- Manage critical production incidents and lead post-incident reviews and permanent fixes
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 10-12 years of middleware/file transfer experience with deep expertise in Tumbleweed/Axway platforms
- Expert knowledge of Axway Secure Transport, Gateway, and Tumbleweed MFT administration
- Advanced understanding of B2B protocols: AS2, SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, EDI (X12, EDIFACT)
- Strong background in security: PKI, PGP, certificate lifecycle management, and access governance
- Experience leading MFT platform migrations, upgrades, and disaster recovery planning
- Excellent stakeholder management and documentation skills
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Shell, Ansible)
GOOD TO HAVE
- Experience with cloud MFT solutions and hybrid MFT architectures
- Knowledge of API-based file exchange and modern B2B integration patterns
- Exposure to data governance and sensitive data handling policies
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- MFT security or Axway certifications preferred
