We are expanding our engineering team in India and are looking for an Aircraft Design Engineer to support CAD development, aircraft configuration, aircraft integration, manufacturing documentation, and technical support to Finite Element Method, CFD, structures, manufacturing, and prototype development teams for our unmanned cargo aircraft platform.
This role requires practical engineering judgement, ownership of aircraft design work packages, and the ability to work in a fast-moving startup environment where project milestones, technical priorities, and limited resources must be managed carefully.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, update, and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings in Siemens NX.
- Create and review solid and surface CAD models for aerodynamic surfaces, fairings, fuselage transitions, wing and tail interfaces, molds, tooling, and aircraft assemblies.
- Support aircraft configuration and general arrangement development, including wing, fuselage, tail, landing gear interfaces, payload bay, propulsion integration, avionics spaces, control systems, access panels, and internal layouts.
- Support the design and integration of control surfaces, hinges, brackets, servo mounts, linkages, landing gear interfaces, hard points, and structural attachment areas.
- Take ownership of defined CAD and aircraft design work packages, including assembly structure, naming, revision control, configuration control, and interface control between teams.
- Prepare and review manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views, BOMs, part lists, drawing packages, design reports, and technical documentation.
- Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, fits, clearances, GD&T, and design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles.
- Support composite design documentation, including plybook preparation, mold design, jig design, fixture design, tooling development, and manufacturing notes.
- Prepare clean CAD geometry for Finite Element Method and CFD teams, including geometry simplification, surface preparation, coordinate systems, and interface definitions.
- Support structures, manufacturing, testing, and prototype teams with CAD updates, design changes, interface geometry, and technical inputs based on analysis and prototype feedback.
- Mentor junior by reviewing CAD models, drawings, assemblies, documentation, and design assumptions.
- Support aircraft development in alignment with applicable airworthiness requirements such as CS-23 or equivalent standards.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aircraft Design, or a related field.
- Good English communication skills and ability to coordinate clearly with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- 3-5 years of experience in aircraft design, aerospace CAD, mechanical design, unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight structures, or composite aircraft structures.
- Strong experience with Siemens NX, including solid modelling, surface modelling, assembly modelling, and 2D manufacturing drawing preparation.
- Strong understanding of aircraft configuration, aircraft structures, aerodynamic surfaces, control surfaces, mechanisms, structural interfaces, load paths, fasteners, stiffness, weight, and design integration.
- Good understanding of composite materials, composite aircraft structures, manufacturability, tolerances, fits, clearances, and GD&T principles.
- Ability to prepare manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, drawing packages, design reports, and technical documentation.
- Ability to prepare clean CAD geometry for Finite Element Method, CFD, structures, manufacturing, molds, tooling, and prototype development teams.
- Ability to consider mass properties, centre of gravity, packaging, maintenance access, inspection access, interface control, and practical serviceability during aircraft design.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced engineering environment, take ownership of assigned design tasks, mentor junior engineers, and support practical technical decision-making.
