JD of EHS & Operational Excellence Engineer
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The EHS & OPEX Executive will be responsible for driving Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) compliance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the Pump Test Lab and Office. The role will focus on Kaizen, 5S implementation, inventory management, and inward material quality control to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality lab operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Excellence / Continuous Improvement: -
- Drive Lean initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, Visual Management, and standard work implementation.
- Conduct and facilitate Kaizen events, identify improvement opportunities, and track action closures.
- Support Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement projects focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
- Develop and maintain KPIs related to EHS, quality, and operational performance.
- Promote a continuous improvement of culture within lab and supporting teams.
Store Management & Inventory Control: -
- Support store management practices aligned with 5S and Lean principles.
- Ensure systematic material storage, labeling, traceability, and space optimization.
- Coordinate with procurement and lab teams to avoid material obsolescence and shortages.
- Manage lab inventory including spares, consumables, and test equipment
Quality & Documentation
- Support quality systems related to R&D and testing (procedures, work instructions, checklists).
- Participate in internal audits, corrective action tracking, and process standardization.
- Assist in data analysis for quality and process improvement initiatives.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare and present monthly EHS and Operational Excellence reports for management review.
- Track performance metrics, trends, action plans, and improvement progress.
- Prepare and release monthly EHS / CI newsletters highlighting achievements, best practices, and awareness topics.
- Maintain dashboards and visual boards for lab performance and compliance.
EHS Requirement: -
Responsible for implementation of the organization’s EHS Management System in Pune lab to prevent EHS incidents, comply with requirements of local EHS regulations and EHS management system, drive continuous EHS improvements and create safe, healthy, and environmental-friendly workplace.
- Apply site-specific EHS procedures and Safe Work Instructions to ensure compliance with the organization’s EHSMS and local regulatory requirements.
- Drive business culture integrated with safety through toolbox talks, Leadership safety Gemba walks training sessions, campaigns, and regular EHS communications as per the defined communication plan to foster employee engagement.
- Promote WDGLL (What Does Good Look Like) initiatives, coordinate EHS committee meetings, and support department-level EHS goal setting and performance tracking in line with lab objectives.
- Conduct EHS induction and periodic training for employees and contractors based on the defined training matrix to ensure competency and awareness.
- Coordinate regular hazard identification, risk assessments, and environmental impact evaluations. Identify top risks and lead mitigation efforts.
- Enforce site-specific contractor safety requirements and implement permit-to-work systems for high-risk operations such as confined space entry, hot work, electrical work, and work-at-height.
- Maintain inventory of pollution sources and ensure monitoring as per MPCB protocols. Drive initiatives for energy conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable resource utilization.
- Maintain documentation as per SPXFLOW EHS Management System requirements.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure proper installation and upkeep of fire protection systems. Develop and maintain emergency response plans and lead emergency drills, supporting site BCP (business continuity planning) processes.
- Collect and analyze EHS data to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Lead EHS kaizen initiatives and participate in PTE/OPEX events and MOC processes for new products, equipment, or process changes.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Safety Programs: Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs to reduce workplace accidents and ensure employee safety.
- Training: Organize and conduct training sessions on health, safety, and environmental topics for employees.
- Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on EHS performance, including metrics on incidents, safety audits, and training.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Promote and support environmental sustainability initiatives within the organization.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, audits, and incidents.
- PPE Management: Ensure the availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all employees.
Reporting & Communication:
- Prepare and present monthly EHS and Operational Excellence reports for management review.
- Track performance metrics, trends, action plans, and improvement progress.
- Prepare and release monthly EHS / CI newsletters highlighting achievements, best practices, and awareness topics.
- Maintain dashboards and visual boards for lab performance and compliance.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Strong in planning, data analysis, problem solving skills.
- Good interpersonal and influence/communication skills can work effectively with cross-function team.
- Basic Knowledge and experience of ISO45001/ISO14001.
- Good safety/basic EHS audit/basic inspection skills..
- Knowledge of EHS regulations in India.
- Good verbal and written English skills.
- Knowledge of quality standards such as ISO 9001, Six Sigma, or similar.
- Certification in Six Sigma Green/Black Belt .
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in EHS, Operational Excellence, or Continuous Improvement roles.
