In India, ETS plays a growing and strategic role in large‑scale education assessment, policy‑aligned measurement, and capacity building, working closely with public‑sector and system‑level stakeholders. Position Summary:
The Subject Matter Expert will bring deep academic and technical expertise to state‑level capacity‑building initiatives focused on strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) across Ka‑Sreni to Grade 5. The role will contribute to the design, delivery, and institutionalization of assessment‑led improvement efforts, with a strong emphasis on assessment design, framework development, and effective use of data.
Primary Responsibilities:

Interpret state curricula and learning standards across Ka‑Sreni to Grade 5, aligning them with NCF‑FS and national priorities, using evidence from the science of reading and numeracy.

Review and analyze assessment practices in Anganwadi Centres, with a focus on measuring and strengthening school readiness outcomes

Design and develop subject specific frameworks for school-based assessment (SBA) including formative and summative and large-scale including background questionnaires.

Develop high‑quality assessment tasks and test items that ensure equity, accessibility, and usability across diverse school and classroom contexts

Review instructional and assessment content to ensure technical accuracy, curricular relevance, and suitability for intended audiences.

Work closely with trainers and technical teams to design and strengthen training modules on assessment literacy, assessment design, pedagogy, and data use.

Collaborate with internal teams and external subject experts to design and implement subject‑specific education and assessment initiatives.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of subject curricula, assessments, and training interventions, and provide evidence‑based recommendations for continuous improvement.

Support the institutionalization of assessment and training practices aligned with state priorities and national education reforms.
Experience and Skills:
Minimum Qualification:
-
Master's degree with B.Ed./M.Ed. in English, Mathematics, Hindi, Social Science, or Science
Required Experience:
-
8+ years of experience in item development for assessments, module design and delivery of training and 3+ years of teaching experience in government or government-recognized institutions; experience in the creation and structuring of large-scale assessments.
Proficiency in local language(s) of the state is highly preferable. -
Demonstrated expertise in developing competency/learning outcome-based materials for formative and summative assessments.
