About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to engage with our innovative Shared Capabilities team. The ideal candidate will possess experience in building and maintaining containerized software and tooling and have an interest in cross-skilling into a Platform Engineering skillset. This role offers the opportunity to join a team that helps to underpin the success of other Engineering teams at Haleon.
Key responsibilities
Maintain and evolve the Azure Kubernetes platform, ensuring high availability, scalability, security, and operational excellence.
Manage the lifecycle of platform components, including Kubernetes clusters, networking, storage, and Azure services.
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, GitHub Actions, and ArgoCD GitOps practices.
Drive automation initiatives to streamline operations, improve reliability, and reduce manual effort.
Support and onboard application teams, providing guidance on platform capabilities, architecture patterns, and integration approaches.
Provide Level 3 support for incidents, troubleshooting complex Azure, Kubernetes, and deployment-related issues.
Contribute to software engineering activities using JavaScript/TypeScript when required.
Investigate and resolve complex software and infrastructure interactions across distributed systems.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external support teams to ensure platform stability and service continuity.
Implement and enforce security controls, including RBAC, secrets management, image scanning, and compliance requirements.
Own platform documentation and contribute to governance, change management, and access control processes.
Participate in and lead Agile ceremonies, driving continuous improvement and technical excellence within the engineering team.
Qualifications and skills Essential
Microsoft Azure expertise, including AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service), networking, storage, identity management, and cloud-native services.
Kubernetes administration and operations, including cluster management, workload troubleshooting, scaling, upgrades, RBAC, and security.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, with experience developing reusable modules and managing infrastructure at scale.
CI/CD and GitOps practices using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and modern deployment patterns.
Containerization technologies, including Docker and container image management.
Cloud networking knowledge, including virtual networks, ingress controllers, DNS, load balancing, and network security.
Platform security expertise, including RBAC, secret management, vulnerability scanning, compliance controls, and secure-by-design principles.
Observability and monitoring using logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting tools.
Scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies.
Working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and modern software engineering practices.
Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems across cloud, platform, and application layers.
Preferred
5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or a related discipline.
Azure Architect or Developer certifications.
Proven experience operating and supporting production Azure environments at scale.
