About the Role
We are looking for an Oracle Database Administrator to help own and operate the Oracle E-Business Suite platform that runs our core business operations. This is a hands-on role for someone who is equally comfortable inside a multitenant 19c database at 2 a.m. during a clone refresh and writing the Python that automates the same task so it never needs doing by hand again.
You will work directly with our Technical Lead across production and non-production environments, taking ownership of day-to-day database operations while contributing to our growing toolkit of monitoring dashboards, automation scripts, and AI-assisted operations tooling. The environment is deep and well-instrumented, so curiosity and a bias toward root-cause analysis matter more than memorized runbooks.
What You'll Work On
Administer Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 running on Oracle Database 19c (multitenant CDB/PDB) across production and non-production environments on RHEL / Oracle Linux.
Run and improve our clone and refresh pipelines — Cohesity-based restores, RMAN DUPLICATE, PDB unplug/relocate, point-in-time recovery, and the post-clone reconfiguration that comes with it (credential remaps, directory objects, integration endpoints, SGA/PGA sizing for target hardware).
Diagnose and resolve performance problems end to end: AWR/ASH analysis, SQL tuning, cursor-sharing and child-cursor issues, blocking-lock investigation, concurrent-request contention, and capacity planning for tablespaces and memory.
Maintain database security and compliance — privilege and role-chain audits, least-privilege remediation on custom schemas, and keeping our security posture snapshots current.
Support integration points that depend on the database (e.g., Boomi, Fivetran, Power BI, third-party tax services) and help offload heavy reporting reads where appropriate.
Build and extend operational tooling — shell scripts for monitoring, alerting, and disk/filesystem watchdogs, plus contributions to our Python (Flask) operations dashboards.
Participate in incident response, on-call rotation, patching, backup/recovery validation, and routine health checks.
Document what you build and what you fix so the next person (or the next automation) can pick it up cleanly.
Required Qualifications
10+ years as an Oracle DBA in production environments, with strong Oracle 19c experience (multitenant architecture a must).
Hands-on Oracle E-Business Suite administration experience (12.1.x or later) — cloning, patching (AD/AutoConfig), concurrent manager, and the EBS technology stack.
Solid RMAN backup and recovery skills, including restore/duplicate and point-in-time recovery.
Comfortable on Linux (RHEL / Oracle Linux) and writing shell scripts for automation and monitoring.
Demonstrated performance-tuning ability: reading execution plans, AWR/ASH reports, and v$ views to find and fix the actual bottleneck.
Working knowledge of database security concepts — roles, grants, auditing, least privilege.
Clear written communication and a habit of documenting work.
Preferred / Nice to Have
Python development experience (Flask or FastAPI; oracledb / cx_Oracle) — we automate aggressively and build our own internal tooling.
Experience with Cohesity (or comparable enterprise backup/restore platforms).
Familiarity with Oracle Resource Manager, Active Data Guard, and read-offload strategies.
Exposure to integration/ETL tooling such as Boomi, Fivetran, or BI platforms like Power BI.
Experience with JSP/Tomcat or other app-tier components in an EBS context.
Interest in AI-assisted operations — we integrate the Anthropic Claude API into internal tooling and are building agentic, human-gated automation for routine DBA actions.
Oracle certifications (OCP/OCM) are a plus but not required.
What Success Looks Like
First 30 days: Comfortable navigating our environments; shadowing clone refreshes and monitoring workflows; resolving routine tickets and health-check findings independently.
First 90 days: Owning the non-production refresh cycle end to end; independently running performance investigations and proposing fixes; contributing your first automation or monitoring improvement.
First 6 months: A trusted second owner of the platform — sharing on-call, driving at least one meaningful reliability or automation improvement, and reducing the manual toil in a recurring operational process.
