Job Title: OT Pharmacist
Department: Pharmacy / Operation Theatre
Reports To: Chief Pharmacist / Pharmacy Manager / Medical Superintendent
Job Summary
The OT Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the availability, safe storage, dispensing, and documentation of medicines, anesthesia drugs, surgical consumables, and emergency medications required for surgical procedures. The role involves close coordination with surgeons, anesthetists, OT nurses, and the pharmacy team to support safe and efficient patient care in the operation theatre.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain adequate stock of OT medicines, anesthesia drugs, IV fluids, and surgical consumables.
- Dispense medicines and consumables accurately as per surgeon's or anesthetist's requirements.
- Ensure timely availability of emergency drugs during surgical procedures.
- Monitor inventory levels and place requisitions to prevent stock shortages.
- Check expiry dates, batch numbers, storage conditions, and remove expired or damaged items.
- Maintain accurate records of medicine issue, return, consumption, and billing.
- Handle controlled and narcotic drugs as per statutory regulations and hospital policies.
- Ensure proper storage of temperature-sensitive and high-alert medications.
- Coordinate with OT staff, anesthetists, surgeons, and nursing personnel for medication requirements.
- Participate in stock verification, internal audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Report medication errors, adverse drug events, and near misses.
- Maintain infection control and aseptic handling practices in the OT pharmacy.
- Support implementation of hospital policies, NABH standards, and pharmacy SOPs.
- Assist during emergency surgeries by ensuring uninterrupted medicine supply.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm).
- Valid registration with the State Pharmacy Council.
- 1–3 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy; OT pharmacy experience is preferred.

- Knowledge of NABH/JCI standards and hospital pharmacy practices.

Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and emergency duty.
- Work primarily in the Operation Theatre complex and hospital pharmacy.
- Must adhere to infection control protocols and wear appropriate PPE.

- Zero stock-outs of critical OT medicines.
- Accurate inventory and controlled drug records.
- Minimal medication dispensing errors.
- Timely availability of medicines for all surgical procedures.
- Compliance with NABH and hospital quality standards.
- Successful completion of inventory audits with minimal discrepancies.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
