The Operations Head is responsible for leading the overall manufacturing operations of the switches division, ensuring production targets, quality standards, cost efficiency, safety, and timely delivery are achieved. The role involves managing production, planning, maintenance, quality, stores, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring optimum utilization of manpower and resources.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Management
- Lead daily manufacturing operations to achieve production targets.
- Develop and implement production plans in coordination with the Planning team.
- Monitor productivity, machine utilization, and production efficiency.
- Ensure smooth workflow with minimum downtime and production losses.
- Optimize manpower and equipment utilization.
Production Planning & Control
- Coordinate with PPC to ensure timely availability of materials.
- Review production schedules and prioritize orders based on customer requirements.
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and reduce production bottlenecks.
Quality Management
- Ensure products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
- Coordinate with the Quality team to minimize defects and customer complaints.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Drive continuous improvement in quality performance.
Maintenance & Engineering
- Ensure preventive and breakdown maintenance of machines.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to minimize machine downtime.
- Support installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
Inventory & Material Management
- Monitor raw material, consumables, and finished goods inventory.
- Coordinate with Stores and Purchase for uninterrupted material availability.
- Control material wastage and improve inventory accuracy.
Cost Control
- Monitor manufacturing costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Improve operational efficiency through process optimization.
- Reduce rejection, rework, scrap, and overtime costs.
Team Management
- Lead Production Managers, Supervisors, Engineers, and shop-floor staff.
- Set departmental KPIs and monitor performance.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching sessions.
- Develop employee skills through training and succession planning.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety policies and statutory regulations.
- Promote a safe working environment and conduct regular safety audits.
- Ensure compliance with ISO and other applicable quality standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma, and other improvement initiatives.
- Drive productivity improvement projects.
- Monitor operational KPIs and prepare action plans for improvement.
Coordination
- Work closely with Quality, Purchase, Stores, Maintenance, HR, Sales, and Dispatch departments.
- Participate in management review meetings and strategic planning.
- Ensure timely customer deliveries and operational excellence.

Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- MBA in Operations or Production Management is preferred.
Experience
- 12–18 years of experience in manufacturing operations.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in switchgear, electrical switches, modular switches, wiring accessories, or electrical manufacturing is preferred.
