Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Structure Fitter to join our shipbuilding team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reading structural drawings, marking, fitting, and assembling steel structures, hull blocks, and ship components according to approved drawings and quality standards. Candidates with prior shipyard or heavy fabrication experience are preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret structural drawings, GA drawings, and fabrication sketches.
- Mark, align, fit, and assemble steel plates, stiffeners, frames, bulkheads, and other ship structural components.
- Perform tack welding in coordination with welders to ensure proper fit-up.
- Check dimensions, alignment, and tolerances before welding.
- Use measuring instruments and fitting tools accurately.
- Carry out modifications and repairs as per engineering instructions.
- Ensure compliance with quality requirements and production schedules.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the work area.
Requirements
- ITI/Fitter or equivalent technical qualification.
- 3–8 years of experience as a Structure Fitter in a shipyard, offshore, or heavy fabrication industry.
- Ability to read and understand shipbuilding structural drawings.
- Knowledge of steel fabrication, hull assembly, and fit-up techniques.
- Familiarity with measuring tools and fabrication equipment.
- Good understanding of workplace safety practices.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in hull block assembly and ship structural fabrication.
- Knowledge of welding sequences and distortion control.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
