ROLE SUMMARY
The Indirect Tax Manager will lead GST compliance, advisory, and litigation matters for a portfolio of clients. This is a senior individual contributor and team leadership role that demands deep technical expertise in indirect tax law, strong drafting and representation skills, and the ability to build client relationships while mentoring and developing junior professionals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. GST Compliance
▸ Review and manage end-to-end GST compliance including monthly, quarterly, and annual returns
▸ Ensure timely filing of GST returns, reconciliations, and all statutory compliances
▸ Conduct GST health checks and compliance reviews for assigned clients
▸ Handle GST registrations, amendments, refunds, and cancellations
▸ Advise clients on indirect tax implications of business transactions and structural arrangements
▸ Monitor amendments in GST law, circulars, and notifications and implement necessary changes
2. Litigation & Representation
▸ Manage GST assessments, audits, investigations, and departmental proceedings
▸ Draft and review replies to notices, show-cause notices, and scrutiny proceedings
▸ Prepare appeals, legal submissions, and representations before adjudicating and appellate authorities
▸ Coordinate with consultants, legal counsels, and government authorities on complex litigation matters
▸ Represent clients before GST authorities and lead dispute resolution processes
3. Advisory
▸ Provide strategic and transactional indirect tax advisory to clients across industries
▸ Identify indirect tax risks and opportunities in client business operations
▸ Support clients on GST implications of M&A transactions, restructuring, and new business models
4. Client Management
▸ Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients at the decision-maker level
▸ Serve as the primary point of contact for senior client stakeholders on indirect tax matters
▸ Contribute to client retention and expansion through consistent, high-quality service delivery
5. Team Leadership & Development
▸ Review work performed by junior team members and provide structured feedback and mentorship
▸ Assist in recruitment, training, and professional development of the indirect tax team
▸ Contribute to business development, pitches, and practice growth initiatives
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Technical Skills
▸ Deep knowledge of GST laws, rules, regulations, and procedural framework (CGST / IGST / SGST)
▸ Extensive hands-on experience in GST compliance, advisory, and litigation
▸ Expertise in handling assessments, audits, notices, appeals, and departmental representations
▸ Strong drafting skills for legal submissions, replies, and advisory memoranda
▸ Sound knowledge of GSTR-9, GSTR-9C, and annual return reconciliation
▸ Working knowledge of indirect tax implications across industries and transaction types
PREFERRED CANDIDATE PROFILE
▸ Qualified CA with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in indirect taxation
▸ Prior experience in a CA firm, Big 4, consulting firm, or dedicated taxation practice strongly preferred
▸ Demonstrated track record in managing complex GST compliance and litigation matters independently
▸ Proven ability to lead a team, manage client portfolios, and contribute to practice growth
Pay: ₹800,000.00 - ₹1,000,000.00 per year
