Technical Sales & Estimation Engineer – Sheet Metal & Machined Components

About the Role
We are looking for a technically strong Technical Sales & Estimation Engineer who can act as a bridge between our customers and manufacturing team.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of AutoCAD design skills, engineering drawing interpretation, manufacturing process knowledge, costing/estimation ability and customer communication skills.
The person will be responsible for studying customer RFQs and drawings, developing/ modifying components in AutoCAD where required, determining the manufacturing process, calculating product cost and preparing competitive quotations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. RFQ & Drawing Analysis
- Study customer RFQs, drawings, specifications and technical requirements.
- Understand dimensions, tolerances, material specifications and surface-finish requirements.
- Identify technical discrepancies, missing information and potential manufacturing issues.
- Communicate with customers for technical clarifications whenever required.
- Evaluate the feasibility of manufacturing components using available processes and machinery.
2. CAD & Technical Design
- Create and modify 2D sheet metal drawings using AutoCAD.
- Prepare manufacturing/fabrication drawings and sketches where required.
- Prepare BOMs and material take-offs from customer drawings.
- Develop sheet metal components considering manufacturability, bending, welding and assembly requirements.
- Suggest design modifications or value-engineering opportunities to reduce manufacturing cost.
3. Costing & Estimation
Prepare detailed product costing based on:
- Raw material requirements and material utilization
- Laser cutting / shearing
- Press shop / stamping
- Bending
- Drilling / tapping
- CNC turning
- VMC machining
- Welding and fabrication
- Assembly
- Tooling / dies
- Labour and machine costs
- Inspection
- Powder coating
- Hot-dip galvanizing
- Other surface treatments
- Packing and other applicable costs
Prepare accurate and competitive quotations based on customer requirements and company costing standards.
4. Technical Sales Support
- Work closely with the Sales team to respond to customer enquiries and RFQs.
- Provide technical support during customer discussions.
- Explain manufacturing feasibility, costing assumptions and technical limitations.
- Follow up on submitted quotations and obtain customer feedback.
- Maintain quotation records and track RFQ status.
- Revise quotations based on customer requirements and drawing revisions.
- Support business development by identifying opportunities for additional products/processes.
Required Technical Skills
Mandatory:
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D
- Strong engineering drawing reading ability
- Good knowledge of sheet metal fabrication
- Product costing and quotation preparation
- Good knowledge of MS Excel
- Knowledge of metals and material grades
- Understanding of manufacturing processes
Preferred:
- Experience in sheet metal manufacturing / fabrication / stamping
- Knowledge of CNC machining
- Knowledge of welding and fabrication
- Knowledge of powder coating and hot-dip galvanizing
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Experience dealing with industrial/OEM customers
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD software
Manufacturing Knowledge Expected
The candidate should preferably have practical knowledge of several of the following:

The candidate will be evaluated on:
- Accuracy of quotations
- Turnaround time for RFQs
- Accuracy of material calculations
- Costing accuracy
- Number and value of quotations generated
- RFQ-to-order conversion
- Response time to customer enquiries
- Reduction in costing/quotation errors
- Ability to identify cost-saving opportunities
- Customer communication and follow-up
Education & Experience
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
2–6 years of relevant experience in sheet metal fabrication, manufacturing, costing, estimation, technical sales or a similar role is preferred.
Candidates with strong practical manufacturing knowledge and excellent AutoCAD/costing skills may also be considered.
Important
This is not a conventional sales position. We are specifically looking for a technically competent person who can understand a customer's drawing, determine how the component should be manufactured, calculate its cost and confidently communicate with the customer.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
