Qualifications
- ITI in Tool & Die Maker, Machinist, Fitter, Turner, or equivalent trade or
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/ B. E/ Btech Mechanical Engineering , Tool Engineering, Production Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent preferred.
Experience
3–5 years of experience in pressure die casting, tool room, or new product development activities.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of pressure die casting processes, tooling, NPD Activities
- Understanding of die design concepts, gating, overflow, and cooling systems.
- Familiarity with CNC machining, EDM, and tool room operations.
- Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, and 7 QC tools.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Strong problem-solving and project coordination skills.
Job Summary
The NPD Engineer – Tool Room is responsible for developing, planning, and executing new die casting tooling and product development activities from concept to production launch. The role involves coordinating with design, production, quality, and customers to ensure timely development of dies, fixtures, gauges, and related tooling for pressure die casting operations.
Job Responsibilities
New Product Development
- Handle end-to-end new product development activities for pressure die casting components.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, and CAD models for manufacturability.
- Prepare feasibility studies for new die casting projects.
- Coordinate APQP activities for new product launches.
- Support prototype development and sample trials.
Tool Room & Die Development
- Plan and monitor manufacturing of pressure die casting dies, trim tools, fixtures, and gauges.
- Coordinate with die designers, CNC machining, EDM, and assembly teams.
- Ensure tool trials, corrections, and validation activities are completed on time.
- Analyze tooling issues and implement corrective actions.
Process Development
- Optimize die casting parameters during initial development.
- Work closely with production to achieve cycle time, quality, and productivity targets.
- Support process validation and PPAP submissions.
Documentation & Quality
- Maintain tooling development records, ECNs, trial reports, and process documents.
- Prepare and update SOPs, control plans, PFMEA, and process flow charts.
- Ensure compliance with customer and quality standards such as IATF 16949.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with customers, suppliers, and internal departments regarding tooling progress and technical requirements.
- Participate in customer meetings for new project discussions and technical clarifications.
- Track project timelines and ensure on-time delivery of development milestones.
Software Knowledge
- CAD/CAM software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX
- MS Office and ERP systems
