Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Import Pricing Specialist with specific expertise in ISO Tank / Bulk Liquid Logistics to manage end-to-end import freight procurement and commercial quoting.
The role involves working closely with global shipping lines, NVOCCs, overseas agents, and domestic transport vendors to secure optimal buying rates and deliver accurate, competitive, and time-sensitive pricing solutions while protecting profit margins and minimizing cost leakages.
Key Responsibilities
1. Rate Procurement & Vendor Negotiation
- Source ocean freight rates across major international trade lanes from Main Line Operators.
- Negotiate local import costs including Terminal Handling Charges (THC), Customs House Agent (CHA) charges, and inland drayage.
- Secure specialized pricing based on ISO tank specifications such as T11, T14, T50 Gas, and lined chemical tanks.
- Manage specialized accessory costs including steam heating, electrical heating, and nitrogen blanketing.
2. Commercial Quoting & RFQ Management
- Analyze complex RFQs and tender documentation for large global chemical and food-grade cargo manufacturers.
- Calculate end-to-end import landing costs, including ocean freight, ancillary charges, customs duties, and delivery costs.
- Structure leasing tariffs considering short-term spot rates, long-term leasing options, and demurrage structures.
- Provide timely and accurate quotations to Sales teams and direct importers.
3. Asset & Fleet Cost Optimization
- Incorporate asset repositioning costs into pricing models to minimize empty container mileage.
- Factor in Maintenance & Repair (M&R) costs, structural cleaning station fees, and statutory 2.5/5-year testing costs.
- Analyze detention and demurrage liabilities to protect the business from unexpected port stay extensions.
4. Compliance & Market Intelligence
- Classify cargo profiles using the IMDG Code and incorporate applicable Dangerous Goods (DG) surcharges.
- Monitor global freight trends, Bunker Adjustment Factors (BAF), and container capacity bottlenecks.
- Audit supplier invoices against historical rate agreements to identify billing discrepancies and overcharges.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Logistics, International Trade, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 3+ years of freight forwarding or shipping line pricing experience, specifically focused on ISO Tanks or Bulk Liquid Logistics.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ISO Tank classifications, structural components, and IMDG Dangerous Goods handling rules.
- Familiarity with international trade structures, HS classification systems, and customs clearance procedures.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, commercial, and vendor-management skills.
- Ability to work with global shipping lines, NVOCCs, overseas agents, and domestic transport vendors.
