A Hospital Billing Executive is responsible for the financial side of patient care, ensuring all medical services are accurately billed, insurance claims are processed, and payments are collected. This role often bridges the gap between the front desk (reception) and the finance department.
- OPD & IPD Billing: Generate accurate bills for Outpatient (OPD) and Inpatient (IPD) services, including consultations, diagnostics, and surgeries.
- Insurance & TPA Coordination: Verify patient insurance coverage, gather necessary documentation, and coordinate with Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) for cashless treatments.
- Payment Collection: Handle cash, credit card, and online payments; manage advance deposits and process final discharge settlements.
- Claims Management: Prepare and submit insurance claims, track unpaid accounts, and follow up on denied or underpaid claims.
- Patient Financial Counseling: Explain billing details, provide cost estimates, and address patient queries or complaints regarding charges.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain meticulous daily records, generate MIS reports, and ensure all billing files comply with hospital policies and statutory regulations. Tech Mahindra SMART Academy +8
Typical Job Requirements
- Education: Usually requires a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounts, Finance, or Healthcare Administration.
- Experience: Employers often look for 1–3 years of experience in hospital billing or TPA backgrounds.

- Strong numerical ability and attention to detail to prevent billing errors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for handling sensitive financial discussions with patients.
- Work Environment: Often involves rotational shifts, including night shifts for some 24/7 facilities.
