Purchase Manager in a cable manufacturing company leads the procurement of raw materials (copper, aluminum, PVC, XLPE), manages vendor relationships, and ensures uninterrupted production through strategic sourcing. They are responsible for negotiating contracts to optimize costs, managing inventory levels, and ensuring compliance with industry standards like IS/IEC.
Key Responsibilities
- Raw Material Procurement: Source copper, aluminum, insulation compounds (PVC, XLPE), steel tape, and packing materials, ensuring quality and competitive pricing.
- Vendor Management: Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with suppliers; conduct vendor audits and negotiations for favorable terms.
- Inventory & Logistics: Maintain optimal inventory levels to support production, managing inventory turnover and reducing carrying costs.
- Cost Optimization: Implement cost-saving initiatives and negotiate contracts to reduce material costs without sacrificing quality.
- Technical & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all procured materials meet IS/IEC, RoHS, or REACH standards and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with production, planning, and quality departments to ensure timely material availability.
- ERP Utilization: Use ERP systems (e.g., SAP) to generate purchase orders, track deliveries, and manage vendor data.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 5 to 10 years of experience in procurement, specifically within the cable or electrical manufacturing industry.
- Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of cable manufacturing processes and raw material market trends.
- Skills: Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills; proficiency in ERP software
