About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Apparel Production Manager specialising in Knitwear to take complete ownership of our garment production operations.
The candidate will be responsible for managing all in-house production as well as external job workers, ensuring that knitwear garments are produced to the required quality standards, within agreed timelines and at the planned cost.
The ideal candidate should have strong technical and practical experience in knitwear manufacturing, particularly T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts, hoodies and similar products.
This is a senior, hands-on role requiring strong production planning, technical knowledge, quality control and job-worker management skills.
Key Responsibilities1. Complete Production Ownership
- Take complete responsibility for production from production handover through to final packing and dispatch.
- Plan, coordinate and monitor all production activities for knitwear orders.
- Manage both in-house production and external job workers.
- Ensure every order is completed on time, with the required quality and within budget.
- Proactively identify production risks, bottlenecks and delays and take corrective action.
2. Knitwear Production & Technical Knowledge
- Strong practical understanding of knitwear manufacturing processes.
- Experience with T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts, hoodies, fleece and other knitted garments.
- Good knowledge of:
- Fabric construction and GSM
- Shrinkage and relaxation
- Fabric yield and consumption
- Cutting and marker planning
- Stitching/sewing operations
- Neck and rib construction
- Collar and cuff attachment
- Printing and embroidery coordination
- Washing and finishing
- Ironing, folding and packing
- Understand garment specifications, measurements, construction details and approved samples.
- Ensure production follows approved PP samples, size specs, artwork and technical requirements.
3. Production Planning
- Prepare daily and weekly production plans based on order quantities and delivery commitments.
- Plan production capacity across in-house units and job workers.
- Allocate production according to capacity, skill and delivery priority.
- Monitor planned vs. actual production on a daily basis.
- Ensure smooth movement of goods between different production stages.
4. In-House Production Management
- Supervise all in-house production activities and production personnel.
- Allocate manpower and machines effectively.
- Monitor productivity and daily output.
- Identify areas for improving production efficiency.
- Ensure proper production discipline and adherence to processes.
5. Job Worker Management
- Manage the complete network of external knitwear job workers.
- Allocate quantities and production timelines.
- Closely follow up on production progress.
- Monitor quality, capacity, efficiency and delivery performance.
- Ensure job workers adhere to approved samples and specifications.
- Develop and maintain reliable job-worker capacity for peak production requirements.
- Resolve production and quality issues quickly.
6. Quality Control
- Take overall responsibility for production quality.
- Ensure fabric, construction, measurements, stitching, finishing and appearance meet required standards.
- Monitor quality at different stages rather than relying only on final inspection.
- Identify and reduce defects, rework, alterations and rejection.
- Ensure corrective action is taken immediately when quality problems occur.
- Ensure final garments are properly inspected before packing.
7. Fabric & Material Management
- Coordinate with stores, purchase and merchandising to ensure all fabric, trims and accessories are available before production.
- Ensure correct fabric, colour, GSM and trims are used.
- Monitor fabric utilisation and wastage.
- Identify fabric-related issues such as shade variation, shrinkage, GSM variation or defects before they affect production.
8. Delivery Management
- Take ownership of meeting committed delivery dates.
- Track every order from production start to dispatch.
- Maintain order-wise production status.
- Escalate potential delays immediately.
- Coordinate closely with merchandising, stores, QC, purchase and dispatch teams.
9. Cost & Productivity
- Monitor production costs, labour efficiency and job-worker costs.
- Control fabric wastage, production wastage and rework.
- Improve production efficiency and utilisation of manpower and machines.
- Ensure production is carried out within approved cost parameters.
10. Team Management
- Lead and supervise the production team.
- Set clear daily production targets.
- Monitor performance and productivity.
- Train and develop production personnel where required.
- Create a disciplined and accountable production environment.
11. Reporting
Maintain accurate production reports covering:
- Order-wise production status
- Planned vs. actual production
- In-house production
- Job-worker production
- Pending quantities
- Quality/rejection levels
- Rework and alterations
- Expected completion dates
- Production bottlenecks
- Dispatch readiness
Provide regular and accurate updates to management.
Pay: ₹65,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
