Job Summary
The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, tea, and specialty beverages while providing exceptional customer service. The role includes maintaining beverage quality, ensuring cleanliness of the coffee station, handling customer orders efficiently, and contributing to a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the hotel's hospitality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesBeverage Preparation
- Prepare and serve espresso-based beverages, brewed coffee, teas, cold beverages, mocktails, and other specialty drinks according to standard recipes.
- Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and quality of all beverages.
- Operate and maintain espresso machines, coffee grinders, blenders, and other beverage equipment.
- Monitor brewing temperatures, extraction times, and beverage quality.
Customer Service
- Welcome guests warmly and provide professional, courteous service.
- Take customer orders accurately and make suitable beverage recommendations.
- Address guest inquiries and resolve complaints promptly and professionally.
- Build positive relationships with repeat guests by remembering preferences whenever possible.
Hygiene & Food Safety
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the coffee counter, equipment, and workstations.
- Follow HACCP, FSSAI, and hotel food safety standards.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other ingredients.
- Monitor expiry dates and practice FIFO (First In, First Out).
Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, disposables, and other supplies.
- Inform supervisors about low stock and replenishment requirements.
- Minimize wastage and ensure efficient use of ingredients.
- Assist in stock counts and inventory audits.
Equipment Maintenance
- Clean and backflush espresso machines daily.
- Maintain grinders and brewing equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Report equipment malfunctions immediately to the supervisor.
Cash Handling (if applicable)
- Process customer bills accurately.
- Handle cash, POS transactions, and digital payments.
- Maintain proper cash records and submit daily sales reports when assigned.
Teamwork
- Coordinate with kitchen and service staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Support colleagues during busy service periods.
- Participate in departmental meetings and training programs.
Qualifications
- Higher Secondary (Plus Two) or Diploma in Hotel Management/Hospitality preferred.
- Certification in Barista Training is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience as a Barista in a reputed hotel, café, coffee shop, or restaurant.
- Experience in a four-star or five-star hotel is preferred.
Required Skills
- Excellent knowledge of coffee preparation techniques.
- Ability to prepare espresso, cappuccino, latte, mocha, americano, macchiato, and other specialty beverages.
- Knowledge of coffee beans, roasting, grinding, and brewing methods.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Basic knowledge of POS systems.
- Attention to detail and presentation.
