Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field (essential).
- Master's degree (M.Tech/M.E.) in Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulics, Environmental Engineering, or Public Health Engineering is highly preferred or required for senior roles.
Experience Level
- Mid-level: 4–8 years of relevant experience in water supply / distribution system design and modeling.
- Senior-level: 8–12+ years, especially if handling complex/large-scale projects (e.g., town-level networks, transmission mains, treatment plants).
- Proven track record on water supply projects — ideally including rural/urban schemes, network design, pumping stations, storage tanks, or transmission lines.
- Experience in Indian standards/projects (e.g., CPHEEO Manual, JJM guidelines, AMRUT, or similar government schemes) is a big plus.
Technical Skills & Software Proficiency (Must-Have)
- WaterGEMS (or WaterCAD / OpenFlows Water) — Advanced level: Building/calibrating hydraulic models, pipe sizing, pressure analysis, fire flow, pump optimization, scenario analysis, water quality modeling.
- AutoCAD (or Civil 3D) — Expert level: Preparing detailed drawings, layouts, profiles, cross-sections, alignment plans, reinforcement detailing for structures.
- Google Earth / GIS basics — For site reconnaissance, contour extraction, route alignment, overlaying network on terrain, preliminary layouts.
- Additional desirable tools: EPANET (for basic modeling), SewerGEMS (if sewer involved), ArcGIS/Global Mapper (for spatial data), MS Excel (for calculations/reports).
Core Domain Knowledge & Responsibilities
- Hydraulic design of water distribution networks (gravity + pumped systems).
- Structural design of water-related elements: Overhead service reservoirs (OHSR), ground-level reservoirs (GLR), sumps, pump houses, intake structures, treatment units .
- Pipe network layout, demand estimation, head loss calculations, pump selection.
- Preparation of detailed project reports (DPR), cost estimates, BOQ, tender drawings.
- Compliance with standards: CPHEEO, IS codes (e.g., IS 456 for RCC structures), AWWA (if international), local regulations.
- Site visits, coordination with surveyors, and integration of topographic data.
Soft Skills & Other Requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting models and designs.
- Ability to work independently or in a team, prepare reports/presentations.
- Good communication (English + Hindi preferred) for client/government interactions.
- Preferably registered with IEI or holding PE-equivalent certification (or pursuing).
- Willingness to travel for site surveys.
