Software Architect – Laravel/React
Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Software Architect to design, build, and scale our Laravel/React applications. You will own architecture decisions across projects, direct and mentor the engineering team, and remain hands-on as an individual contributor on select high-impact projects. You will define architectural patterns, set engineering standards, ensure system security, and optimize application performance across the stack.
Experience: 8+ years in software development, including 4+ years with Laravel in production and 2+ years leading and mentoring engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Design
- Design scalable, secure, and maintainable software architectures across client and internal projects.
- Define API contracts and integration patterns using REST.
- Establish state management patterns for complex React applications.
- Design database schemas and optimize queries for MySQL/PostgreSQL.
- Choose between microservices and modular monolith structures based on business needs.
- Document system designs, architecture decision records (ADRs), and data flows.
Technical Leadership & Mentoring
- Set technical standards, coding guidelines, and best practices for the team.
- Conduct regular code reviews and review high-risk changes and architectural designs.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, and structured feedback.
- Participate in sprint planning and estimation; unblock developers on technical issues.
- Evaluate and introduce new tools, libraries, and frameworks safely.
- Contribute to hiring: technical screening and interviews for engineering candidates.
Hands-On Development (Individual Contributor)
- Write clean, production-ready code for critical system components.
- Build and maintain automated test coverage (unit, integration, end-to-end).
- Optimize application performance across backend and frontend layers.
- Configure and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
RequirementsBackend
- Proven experience building enterprise applications with Laravel and PHP 8+.
- Deep knowledge of Eloquent ORM, queues, broadcasting, events, and service providers.
- Strong understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, and common design patterns.
- Testing experience with PHPUnit or Pest.
Frontend
- Expert-level proficiency in React and TypeScript.
- Experience with modern build tools (Vite, Webpack).
- Experience with state management libraries (Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or TanStack Query).
- Familiarity with frontend testing (Jest, React Testing Library, or Playwright).
Infrastructure & Databases
- Strong experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including schema design and query optimization.
- Caching strategies using Redis or Memcached.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and Docker.
- Comfortable with Git-based workflows (branching strategies, PR reviews).
Soft Skills
- Clear communication skills — able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ownership mindset: comfortable making decisions and being accountable for outcomes.
- Ability to balance delivery speed with code quality and long-term maintainability.
Nice to Have
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architectures.
- Exposure to Laravel Octane, Horizon, or serverless deployments (Vapor).
- Experience with WebSockets / real-time features (Laravel Echo, Pusher).
- Prior experience in an agency or multi-client delivery environment.
