Role Overview:
The role is responsible for end-to-end Direct and Indirect Tax compliance, ownership of tax litigation, and support for group financial reporting, including subsidiaries and consolidated financials. The position also ensures compliance with FEMA, SOFTEX, and other cross‑border regulatory requirements, while maintaining strong governance, internal controls, and timely escalation of risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct & Indirect Taxation
- Oversee Direct Tax and Indirect Tax compliance for the group, ensuring timely and accurate filing of all returns (Income Tax, GST, TDS/TCS, etc.).
- Handle assessments, notices, appeals, and hearings, and liaise with tax authorities and external consultants.
- Review contracts, transactions, and proposals for tax implications, recommending compliant and tax‑efficient structures.
- Ensure accurate tax provisioning, reconciliations, and true‑ups with absolutely no year‑end surprises.
- Ensure compliance with GST, ICDS, and applicable legacy laws (Service Tax / VAT / Sales Tax).
- Support Tax Audit and Statutory Audit, including preparation of working papers and responses.
- Ensure adherence to Internal Financial Controls (IFC) related to taxation processes.
- Tax Litigation & Matter Ownership
- Act as the single point of ownership for all ongoing tax litigations and assessments across Direct and Indirect Taxes.
- Track matter‑wise status, next action dates, risks, and consultant deliverables.
- Ensure timely submissions, closures, and clear visibility of exposure and developments to senior management.
- Financial Reporting & Group Accounting Support
- Assist in finalisation of accounts of domestic and overseas subsidiaries, including review of trial balances, schedules, and key accounting judgments.
- Support preparation of consolidated financial statements of the holding company, including inter‑company reconciliations and eliminations.
- Review inter‑company transactions and balances to ensure alignment with tax, FEMA, GST, transfer pricing, and financial reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with statutory auditors and internal stakeholders on group reporting matters.
- MIS, Budgeting & Management Reporting
- Prepare and review MIS for the holding company and subsidiaries, highlighting variances, trends, and key exceptions.
- Assist in annual budgeting and forecast exercises, coordinating with business and functional teams.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of financial data used for management and board reporting.
- FEMA, SOFTEX & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with FEMA regulations, including reporting related to foreign subsidiaries, investments, and cross‑border transactions.
- Handle SOFTEX filings and coordinate with STPI and external consultants.
- Support regulatory filings such as FLA returns and other RBI‑related compliances, as applicable.
- Team Management – Direct & Indirect Tax
- Lead and manage a two‑member taxation team handling day‑to‑day Direct Tax and Indirect Tax operations.
- Allocate work, review outputs, and ensure timely closure of routine compliances, reconciliations, assessments, and ongoing matters.
- Ensure proper documentation, backup, and continuity of work, avoiding person dependency.
- Guide and mentor team members on technical matters, compliance discipline, and ownership mindset.
- Governance, Controls & Escalation
- Maintain centralized trackers and compliance calendars for taxation, litigations, FEMA, and SOFTEX.
- Ensure timely escalation of risks, exceptions, delays, or potential non‑compliances to the reporting manager.
- Support preparation of Audit Committee and Board‑level notes relating to taxation, litigations, and regulatory matters.
- Identify process gaps and propose practical improvements to strengthen controls, compliance discipline, and audit readiness.
Educational Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA) preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in commerce / accounting / finance / business administration
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of experience in taxation with exposure to financial reporting and group structures, preferably in a listed company.
- Strong working knowledge of GST
- Strong understanding and knowledge of Income Tax, FEMA, SOFTEX, and consolidation principles.
- Hands‑on experience with SAP / ERP‑based accounting and MIS.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to manage multiple matters in parallel.
- Clear, timely communication with auditors, consultants, regulators, and senior management.
