Location: Remote / India
Engagement: Contract / Project-Based
Client: Confidential U.S.-Based Client
Experience Level: Mid-Level to Senior
Work Arrangement: Remote, with potential virtual meetings with the U.S. client
This is a task based - fee role - a fee is discussed for the task between both parties
About the Role:
We are looking for a talented Game Developer / Interactive Experience Engineer who can take a high-level concept or idea from a client and turn it into a well-structured, technically sound, interactive experience.
This role is not limited to writing code from an existing specification. The ideal candidate should be comfortable taking an idea that may initially exist as a concept, visual reference, workflow, storyboard, or written explanation and determining:
- How the experience should work.
- What technology and architecture should be used.
- How the different components should interact.
- What should be built first as a prototype.
- How the concept can be developed into a scalable, polished product.
- How to translate a client's vision into an actual playable or interactive experience.
The successful candidate will work closely with our team and, when appropriate, participate in discussions with a confidential U.S.-based client to understand requirements, propose technical solutions, and bring the client's ideas to life.
Key Responsibilities
Concept-to-Product Development
- Review and understand high-level concepts, ideas, sketches, workflows, storyboards, and product requirements.
- Translate non-technical ideas into practical technical requirements and development plans.
- Architect interactive experiences from the ground up.
- Determine appropriate game engines, frameworks, programming languages, tools, and supporting technologies.
- Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate ideas before full development.
- Build interactive gameplay, simulations, environments, interfaces, mechanics, or other required experiences.
- Iterate based on client feedback and progressively refine the concept into a working product.
Technical Architecture
- Design a clean and scalable technical architecture for the project.
- Determine appropriate systems, components, data structures, workflows, and integrations.
- Identify technical limitations and propose alternative solutions where necessary.
- Evaluate feasibility, development effort, risks, and dependencies.
- Make practical technology recommendations rather than simply implementing predetermined instructions.
Development
- Develop, test, debug, and optimize interactive applications or game experiences.
- Implement gameplay systems, interactions, UI/UX elements, animations, environments, data-driven functionality, and other project requirements as applicable.
- Integrate third-party tools, APIs, assets, or services when required.
- Maintain organized, readable, and maintainable code.
- Ensure the resulting application is stable, responsive, and suitable for continued development.
Client Collaboration
- Participate in virtual meetings with the U.S.-based client when required.
- Ask intelligent questions to clarify ambiguous requirements.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Convert client feedback into actionable development tasks.
- Present prototypes and demonstrate progress at agreed milestones.
- Be comfortable saying when an approach is technically impractical and proposing a better alternative.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional experience in game development, interactive application development, simulation development, or a closely related field.
- Strong programming skills in one or more relevant languages such as C#, C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python.
- Experience with at least one major game or interactive development platform such as:
- Unity
- Unreal Engine
- Godot
- Another comparable engine/framework
- Understanding of software architecture and object-oriented programming.
- Experience developing interactive systems rather than only static applications.
- Ability to independently understand requirements and determine an appropriate technical approach.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work from incomplete or evolving specifications.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Strongly Preferred
- Experience taking a project from concept → architecture → prototype → production.
- Experience building prototypes or MVPs from relatively high-level ideas.
- Experience with educational games, simulations, serious games, interactive learning experiences, visualization, or gamified applications.
- Experience with 2D and/or 3D interactive environments.
- Experience with UI/UX implementation within interactive applications.
- Experience integrating AI-generated or externally supplied assets into an interactive experience.
- Experience working directly with U.S.-based clients or distributed international teams.
- Ability to evaluate a concept and independently recommend the appropriate technical stack.
What We Are Looking For
The most important qualification is not a particular engine or programming language.
We are looking for someone who can take a statement such as:
"This is the experience we want the user to have."
and work backward to determine:
Concept → User Experience → Systems → Architecture → Prototype → Development → Testing → Final Product
You should be comfortable operating in situations where the client has a strong creative vision but may not have a complete technical specification.
You should be able to ask:
- What is the user actually supposed to do?
- What happens when the user makes a particular choice?
- What systems are required to make that happen?
- What should be interactive versus visual?
- What technology is best suited for the concept?
- What can be prototyped quickly?
- What needs to be engineered properly for the final product?
- How can the architecture accommodate future changes?
Confidentiality & Security
This project involves highly confidential and proprietary client information.
The selected candidate must be comfortable working under strict confidentiality requirements, including execution of an NDA and applicable project/work-for-hire agreements before receiving confidential project materials to understand the project for the intial bid proposal.
Candidates may be required to:
- Sign confidentiality agreements before accessing project information.
- Keep all project information strictly confidential.
- Avoid sharing project materials, screenshots, source code, concepts, documents, or communications with unauthorized persons.
- Maintain appropriate security practices when handling client materials.
- Not use confidential project information for portfolios, demonstrations, publications, training, or other purposes without written authorization.
- Understand that the confidentiality obligations apply to the project, development process, and client communications.
Because of the sensitive nature of the project, additional project details will only be disclosed to shortlisted candidates who have completed the required confidentiality documentation.
Initial Evaluation Process
The initial evaluation will focus on the candidate's ability to think through and architect a concept, rather than simply demonstrate coding ability.
The process may include:
- Initial review of the candidate's experience, portfolio, and relevant projects.
- A discussion regarding the candidate's technical background and approach to turning ideas into working products.
- A preliminary technical assessment or bid based on limited information.
- For shortlisted candidates, execution of the required NDA.
- A small paid evaluation/prototype assignment based on confidential project information.
- Review of the candidate's proposed architecture, approach, communication, and quality of work.
- If selected, execution of the applicable work-for-hire agreement and commencement of milestone-based development.
No confidential client materials will be provided before the required confidentiality documentation is completed.
Ideal Candidate
You are likely a strong fit if you:
- Think like both a developer and a product architect.
- Can turn vague ideas into concrete technical solutions.
- Enjoy building things from scratch.
- Are comfortable with ambiguity and iteration.
- Can prototype quickly without sacrificing long-term architectural thinking.
- Can explain technical decisions clearly.
- Are capable of working independently.
- Care about the user's experience, not just the underlying code.
- Are comfortable working with confidential, early-stage concepts.
- Can take ownership of a problem rather than waiting for every technical decision to be specified.
Compensation
Compensation will be determined based on experience, technical capability, proposed architecture, project scope, and the candidate's bid.
The project is expected to be milestone-based, with scope and deliverables agreed upon before development begins.
Application Requirements
Please provide:
- Resume/CV
- Portfolio or examples of relevant work
- Links to completed games, interactive applications, prototypes, simulations, or other relevant projects where available
