Job Summary
L2 SQL Database Support Analyst Position: L2 SQL Database Support Analyst Experience: 3–6 Years Location: As per business requirement Shift: Rotational / 24x7 Support (if applicable) Role Summary The L2 SQL Database Support Analyst is responsible for providing advanced support for SQL Server databases, troubleshooting production issues, optimizing database performance, and ensuring database availability. The role involves incident management, root cause analysis, database maintenance, and collaboration with application and infrastructure teams to resolve complex issues. Key Responsibilities Provide Level 2 support for SQL Server databases and business applications. Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve database-related incidents and service requests. Monitor database performance, availability, and storage utilization. Perform query analysis and optimization to improve performance. Execute database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, index maintenance, and DB consistency checks. Investigate SQL job failures, replication issues, and database connectivity problems. Support application deployments, database releases, and change management activities. Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring incidents and implement preventive measures. Manage user access, permissions, and database security compliance. Coordinate with L3 DBAs, developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders. Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, KEDBs, and support runbooks.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure adherence to SLA, ITIL, and organizational compliance requirements. Technical Skills Required SQL Server Administration SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 administration. Backup and recovery processes. Database migration and refresh activities. SQL Agent job monitoring and troubleshooting. Database security and user management. SQL Querying & Performance Tuning Advanced SQL queries. Complex Joins, CTEs, Window Functions. Stored Procedures, Functions, Triggers, Views. Query optimization and execution plan analysis. Index management and performance tuning. Database Monitoring Monitoring tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, Extended Events. Database health checks and capacity planning. Monitoring blocking, deadlocks, and long-running queries. Incident & Problem Management Production support and troubleshooting. RCA documentation. Incident management tools (ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy, etc.). ITIL process knowledge. Required Qualifications Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 3–6 years of experience in SQL Server support and administration. Microsoft SQL certifications are preferred. Preferred Skills Experience with High Availability (Always On, Log Shipping, Replication, Clustering). Basic PowerShell scripting. Exposure to Azure SQL Database or Cloud platforms. Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS. Knowledge of data warehousing concepts. Soft Skills Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder management. Ability to work in high-pressure production environments. Good documentation and reporting skills. Team collaboration and mentoring of L1 team members. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Incident resolution within SLA. Database uptime and availability. Reduction in recurring incidents. Successful RCA completion. Query performance improvement. Customer satisfaction and stakeholder feedback. Compliance with change and release management processes. Typical Responsibilities Difference Between L1 and L2 L1: Monitoring, ticket triage, basic query execution, initial troubleshooting, escalation. L2: Advanced troubleshooting, performance tuning, database maintenance, RCA, release support, and mentoring L1 resources.
