In the real estate and construction sector, a Store Keeper (also called a Material Storekeeper or Site Inventory Executive) is responsible for managing the physical warehouse or storage yard at a construction site. [1]Unlike retail warehousing, a real estate store keeper manages heavy building materials (cement, steel, bricks), high-value fixtures, plumbing supplies, and specialized construction machinery to prevent theft and project delays.
Core Roles & Responsibilities
1. Material Receipt & Inspection
- Verify Deliveries: Cross-check incoming delivery trucks against purchase orders, invoices, and material challans to verify exact quantities.
- Quality Check: Inspect materials physically for damages, moisture issues (especially in cement), or manufacturing defects before unloading.
- Log Entry: Update the physical registers or construction ERP software (e.g., SAP, BuildSmart) with exact batch numbers and delivery dates.
2. Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Proper Storage: Organize raw materials systematically based on safety standards, shelf life, and ease of access (e.g., keeping cement bags off the damp floor).
- Stock Tracking: Maintain an up-to-date Stock Ledger detailing minimum, maximum, and re-order thresholds to prevent critical item shortages.
- Scrap Control: Monitor, categorize, and document scrap construction materials, empty cement bags, or damaged tools for recycling or disposal.
3. Material Issuance & Reconciliation
- Authorized Allocation: Issue materials to contractors and site laborers only upon receiving a signed Material Requisition Slip approved by the Site Engineer.
- Audit Support: Conduct weekly or monthly physical stock audits to reconcile physical quantities with system records and flag discrepancies.
4. Safety & Security
- Prevent Theft: Control access to the material storage area and ensure high-value items (electrical wiring, bath fittings, tools) are securely locked.
- Fire Safety: Ensure compliance with fire hazards, ventilation needs, and safety rules near chemical storage or gas cylinders
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
