Job Overview
The Lead Database Engineering – GCC is responsible for managing a team of engineers providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 operational support across enterprise database platforms, including Microsoft SQL Server, AWS managed database services (RDS, Aurora, PostgreSQL), Oracle, and Snowflake.
This role ensures reliable day-to-day database operations, strong performance and availability, timely incident resolution, and alignment with US-based engineering, application, and data teams. The position is execution-focused, emphasizing operational excellence, deep database troubleshooting, automation, and team leadership within a global delivery model.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
Manage and lead a team of approximately 8 database engineers supporting multiple database platforms including SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL (AWS RDS/Aurora), and Snowflake
Assign and prioritize daily operational work, ensuring timely and accurate execution
Act as the escalation point for complex database issues, including performance, availability, and data integrity incidents
Maintain alignment with US-based leadership through regular communication, metrics reporting, and operational reviews
Database Operations
Support Microsoft SQL Server environments including availability groups, backups, restores, performance tuning, and patching
Support Oracle databases including administration, upgrades, capacity planning, and troubleshooting
Support AWS database services including RDS, Aurora, and PostgreSQL, covering provisioning, monitoring, failover, and scaling
Support Snowflake environments including performance optimization, workload management, user access controls, and data lifecycle activities
Execute standard procedures for database provisioning, patching, upgrades, backups, restores, and decommissioning
Ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and data protection across all supported platforms
Incident, Problem, and Change Management
Respond to database-related incidents, perform deep root cause troubleshooting, and drive timely resolution
Support root cause analysis and contribute to problem management activities aimed at preventing recurrence
Execute approved database changes in compliance with change management processes
Maintain accurate and complete documentation of incidents, changes, and resolutions
Automation & Operational Improvement
Identify opportunities to automate routine database operational tasks such as provisioning, patching, health checks, and monitoring
Support implementation of automation using scripting or database tooling where applicable
Drive reduction of manual effort, recurring incidents, and support toil
Contribute to continuous improvement of database runbooks, standards, and operational workflows
Vendor Coordination
Open and manage support cases with database and cloud vendors including Microsoft, AWS, Oracle, and Snowflake
Work directly with vendors to diagnose and resolve complex database performance, availability, or platform issues
Track vendor cases to resolution and ensure learnings are captured and shared with the team
Operational Excellence
Follow and enforce database standard operating procedures and runbooks
Ensure compliance with backup, recovery, security, and operational standards
Support database security practices including access controls, encryption, and auditing
Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and operational readiness reviews

Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in database engineering or database operations
2+ years of experience leading technical teams within a global delivery model
Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments
Hands-on experience with AWS database services including RDS, Aurora, and PostgreSQL
Hands-on experience with Oracle database administration
Hands-on experience supporting Snowflake data platforms
Strong troubleshooting skills across database performance, availability, replication, and backup/recovery
Experience working with enterprise vendors and managing database support cases
Working knowledge of ITIL processes including incident, problem, and change management
Strong communication and coordination skills across global teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a Global Capability Center (GCC) environment
Exposure to database automation, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code practices
Experience supporting hybrid database environments across on-premises and cloud platforms
Familiarity with database cost optimization concepts, particularly in cloud and Snowflake environments
