Your Skills: Responsible for managing a company's accounts receivable and ensuring customers pay their invoices on time. The role balances maintaining healthy cash flow with preserving good customer relationships.
Key responsibilities typically include:
Managing customer accounts
Set up and maintain customer credit accounts.
Monitor outstanding balances and payment history.
Keep accurate records of invoices, payments, and correspondence.
Collecting overdue payments
Contact customers by phone, email, or letter regarding overdue invoices.
Follow up consistently to reduce outstanding debt.
Monitoring accounts receivable
Identify overdue accounts and prioritize collection efforts.
Track key performance indicators such as Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
Resolving payment disputes
Investigate invoice queries with sales, customer service, and finance teams.
Resolve billing discrepancies that delay payment.
Ensure disputes are settled promptly to facilitate collection.
Reconciling accounts
Match customer payments to invoices.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between customer and company records.
Process adjustments, credit notes, or write-offs when authorized.
Skills required
Successful credit controllers typically have:
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Good numerical and accounting skills.
Time management and organizational skills.
Confidence using accounting and ERP software (such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, or QuickBooks).
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
