A Mechanical Fitter installs, maintains, and repairs industrial machinery and mechanical equipment to ensure operational efficiency. They interpret technical blueprints, fabricate parts, and perform precision assembly using tools like drills, grinders, and lathes. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, adherence to safety protocols, and troubleshooting skills to minimize machine downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Assembly and Installation: Assemble, install, and align new machinery and structural components based on technical drawings and blueprints.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance on hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Fabrication: Fabricate, shape, and modify metal parts using tools like saws, shears, and welding equipment.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose malfunctions and replace broken or worn-out components to restore machinery to optimal performance.
- Inspection: Measure and check components for accuracy using precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers).
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations (PPE, lockout/tagout) to ensure a safe working environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Completed apprenticeship, vocational training, or diploma in mechanical fitting/engineering.
- Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret blue prints, technical manuals, and schematic diagrams.
- Tool Proficiency: Expertise in using hand tools, power tools, and specialized machinery (e.g., lathes, drilling machines).
- Precision: High attention to detail and ability to work with close tolerances.
- Physical Stamina: Manual dexterity and the ability to lift heavy equipment.
