Job Summary
The Assistant Professor in Fashion Design is responsible for delivering high-quality education in fashion design, textiles, garment construction, and fashion technology. The role involves teaching design principles, supervising practical studio work, guiding student collections, conducting research, and contributing to academic and industry-linked creative projects.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Academic Delivery
- Deliver lectures, studio classes, and practical sessions in Fashion Design and Fashion Technology.
- Teach subjects such as:
- Fashion Illustration
- Textile Science
- Pattern Making & Draping
- Garment Construction
- Fashion History & Trends
- CAD for Fashion Design
- Prepare lesson plans, studio assignments, design briefs, and evaluation rubrics.
- Guide students in conceptualization and execution of design projects and portfolios.
- Evaluate student work through juries, presentations, and practical assessments.
Design Studio & Practical Training
- Supervise fashion design studios, workshops, and labs.
- Train students in cutting, stitching, embroidery, surface ornamentation, and garment finishing.
- Conduct fashion shows, exhibitions, and portfolio reviews.
- Ensure proper use of sewing machines, tools, and design software.
Research & Creative Practice
- Engage in design research, textile innovation, and fashion trend studies.
- Develop personal or collaborative design collections.
- Publish research papers in design journals or present at conferences.
- Participate in exhibitions, competitions, and fashion events.
Student Mentorship & Development
- Mentor students in portfolio development and career planning.
- Guide students for internships in fashion houses, boutiques, and export units.
- Encourage participation in fashion competitions and design contests.
- Support entrepreneurship and startup development in fashion industry.
Academic Administration
- Participate in curriculum design and syllabus updates aligned with industry trends.
- Maintain academic records, studio documentation, and assessment reports.
- Contribute to NAAC accreditation and quality improvement processes.
- Assist in admissions, examinations, and departmental activities.
Industry Collaboration
- Build connections with fashion brands, designers, textile industries, and exporters.
- Organize fashion shows, guest lectures, workshops, and industry visits.
- Facilitate internships and live projects with fashion houses and retail brands.
- Promote industry-ready skills and employability of students.
Qualification & ExperienceEssential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design / Fashion Technology / Apparel Design.
- Master’s Degree in Fashion Design / Fashion Technology or related field with First Class.
- Qualification as per UGC/AICTE or institutional norms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry experience in fashion design, apparel production, or retail fashion.
- Experience in teaching or design studio mentoring.
- Participation in fashion shows, exhibitions, or published design work.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of fashion design principles and garment construction.
- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CLO3D (preferred).
- Creativity, aesthetic sense, and trend forecasting ability.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to mentor and guide creative student work.
- Time management and project execution skills.
