A Laser Operator is responsible for operating CNC laser cutting machines to cut metal sheets and components according to engineering drawings and production requirements. The role involves machine setup, program selection, quality inspection, and routine machine maintenance while ensuring safety and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC laser cutting machines safely and efficiently.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and work orders.
- Load and unload metal sheets using appropriate handling equipment.
- Set up machine parameters, select programs, and monitor cutting operations.
- Inspect cut parts for dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
- Perform first-piece and in-process quality inspections using measuring instruments.
- Remove finished parts, separate scrap, and maintain material traceability.
- Carry out routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance.
- Report machine faults and coordinate with maintenance personnel when required.
- Follow production schedules and meet daily output targets.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S practices.
- Comply with all safety procedures and wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Required Skills
- Knowledge of CNC laser cutting machine operations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and fabrication layouts.
- Familiarity with measuring tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and measuring tapes.
- Understanding of different metal materials and thicknesses.
- Basic knowledge of CNC programming is an advantage.
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
- ITI, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Production, Fabrication, or a related field.
- Experience operating CNC laser cutting machines is preferred.
- Freshers with relevant technical training may also be considered.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing or fabrication workshop environment.
- Standing for extended periods and handling metal materials.
- Shift work and overtime may be required based on production needs.
- Mandatory use of PPE, including safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
