About the Role
We are looking for a News Researcher & Script Writer to join the Sunday Sarthak team.
This is a research-first writing role. You will be responsible for finding interesting stories, going deep into the news, verifying facts, identifying the strongest angle, and turning your research into engaging video scripts.
We are looking for someone who doesn't just read the news but wants to understand:
What happened? Why did it happen? What are people missing? And what is the story behind the story?
What You'll Do
- Track important news, developments, controversies, trends, and conversations across India and the world.
- Identify interesting and relevant topics that can become strong Sunday Sarthak videos.
- Conduct deep research using credible and primary sources.
- Go beyond headlines and social media to find original documents, government reports, court orders, research papers, datasets, interviews, and credible news reports.
- Cross-check facts, numbers, quotes, claims, and timelines.
- Identify the larger context, contradictions, hidden angles, and human stories behind news events.
- Develop strong story angles and research briefs.
- Write clear, engaging, well-structured YouTube scripts based on your research.
- Convert complex topics into simple, understandable narratives without compromising accuracy.
- Build strong hooks, storytelling structures, transitions, and endings.
- Work with the editorial and production team to improve scripts based on feedback.
- Keep scripts factually accurate while making them entertaining and engaging.
- Continuously monitor YouTube, X, Instagram, Reddit, news websites, and other platforms for emerging stories and conversations.
What We're Looking For
- Strong understanding of current affairs, news, politics, society, business, technology, geopolitics, and internet culture.
- Excellent research and fact-checking skills.
- Strong ability to find and verify primary sources.
- Excellent Hindi/English writing skills, depending on the content requirement.
- Ability to write conversational, engaging, and easy-to-understand scripts.
- Strong sense of storytelling and editorial judgment.
- Ability to identify what is genuinely interesting versus what is simply trending.
- Curiosity and the habit of following news every day.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple stories under tight deadlines.
- Willingness to rewrite and improve scripts based on editorial feedback.
Good to Have
- Previous experience as a news researcher, journalist, reporter, script writer, researcher, producer, or content writer.
- Experience at a digital newsroom, YouTube channel, media company, journalism organisation, or creator-led content company.
- Experience writing YouTube explainers, documentaries, news videos, or long-form content.
- Background in journalism, political science, economics, law, public policy, or a related field.
- Familiarity with government databases, court documents, RTI, research papers, public datasets, and other primary sources
We're looking for someone who:
- Reads and follows the news every day.
- Is naturally curious and loves going down research rabbit holes.
- Can spend hours understanding a topic and then explain it simply.
- Doesn't blindly trust the first article or viral post they see.
- Can find the original source behind a claim.
- Has strong opinions about stories but knows the difference between facts, analysis, and opinion.
- Can take 20 pages of research and turn it into a compelling 10-minute story.
- Can both think like a journalist and write like a storyteller.
We are looking for people who can find the story, understand the story, and tell the story.
