This is a unique, high-impact opportunity to help launch a globally recognized UK university brand into one of the world’s fastest-growing higher education markets. As a critical member of the founding leadership team, the HR Manager – Birkbeck Bengaluru will lead the human resources strategy, organizational design, and talent lifecycle required to establish and scale the new Birkbeck Bengaluru campus in India.
Working closely with ECA Group People & Culture, the campus leadership team, and key academic stakeholders, the role is responsible for building a high-performance workforce from the ground up—including academic faculty, admissions personnel, and corporate support teams. The HR Manager will blend strategic workforce planning with hands-on execution to attract, onboard, and retain premium talent capable of delivering a high-quality international student experience.
As a launch-stage campus, the role requires an agile, culturally fluent leader who can navigate complex cross-border employment dynamics, ensure strict regulatory and local compliance, and foster an inclusive, student-centric organizational culture. This position is ideal for a proactive HR professional looking to shape the operational foundation and culture of one of India's leading international higher education brands.
1. Strategic HR & Policy Implementation
- Partner with executive leadership to align regional HR strategy with ECA’s global expansion goals.
- Develop, implement, and update regional HR policies and procedures in alignment with local employment laws (e.g., Fair Work Act in Australia, local statutes in international hubs/India).
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the company's Human Resources Management System (HRMS) to optimize daily operations.
- Act as the primary liaison to align regional practices with ECA Global policies.
2. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Collaborate with department heads (Admissions, Student Recruitment, Academic Faculty, and Operations) to forecast and fulfill staffing requirements.
- Implement effective sourcing, screening, and interviewing techniques to attract high-caliber academic and corporate talent.
- Oversee the onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition and rapid integration into ECA’s fast-paced, agile environment.
3. Employee Relations & Workplace Culture
- Act as a trusted advisor to management and staff, addressing grievances, managing conflict, and resolving complex employee relations issues fairly.
- Drive initiatives that foster a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive culture across cross-functional and cross-border teams.
- Organize corporate cultural days, team-building events, and recognition programs to celebrate staff milestones and achievements.
4. Performance Management & Capability Building
- Lead the implementation of quarterly, annual, and 360-degree performance evaluation frameworks to encourage accountability.
- Conduct regular training-needs analyses to identify skill gaps across both corporate and academic staff.
- Coordinate professional development, compliance training, and leadership initiatives that support employee career progression and retention.
5. Compliance, Metrics, & Reporting
- Monitor, analyze, and report on key HR metrics, including employee turnover, retention rates, and workforce demographics.
- Ensure absolute compliance with educational sector standards, visa regulations for multinational staff, and local labor legislation.
- Supervise regional payroll administration, benefits management, and compliance auditing.

Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field. An MBA in HR or relevant professional HR certifications (e.g., AHRI, SHRM) is highly preferred.
- Experience: * Minimum of 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in an HR Managerial or Senior Generalist capacity.
- Experience within the Higher Education, International Student Recruitment, or Vocational Education (VET/ELICOS) sectors is highly desirable.
- Experience managing multi-site or cross-border remote teams is a major plus.

Pay: ₹60,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per month
