The role involves laboratory testing, process monitoring, documentation, and coordination with production to maintain consistent product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspection and testing of raw materials such as phenol, formaldehyde, catalysts, solvents, and additives.
- Conduct quality testing of phenolic resins for parameters such as viscosity, solids content, pH, gel time, free phenol, free formaldehyde, moisture, density, and color, as applicable.
- Monitor resin manufacturing processes and ensure critical process parameters are maintained within specified limits.
- Collect samples from production batches and carry out laboratory analysis according to approved test methods.
- Compare test results with product specifications and approve or reject batches accordingly.
- Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COA) and maintain laboratory test records.
- Investigate quality deviations, customer complaints, and out-of-specification (OOS) results.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain calibration and verification records for laboratory instruments.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory samples.
- Coordinate with Production, R&D, Quality Assurance, and other departments to resolve quality issues.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures, chemical handling requirements, and company quality systems.
- Maintain proper documentation, batch records, inspection reports, and test reports.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of phenolic resin manufacturing and quality parameters.
- Experience with laboratory instruments and chemical testing methods.
- Good understanding of QC procedures, sampling techniques, and specifications.
- Knowledge of analytical techniques such as titration, viscosity measurement, pH measurement, moisture determination, and solids-content analysis.
- Ability to investigate deviations and identify root causes.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality and safety.
Qualification & Experience
- Diploma/Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or a related field.
- Typically 1–5 years of experience in QC/QA in phenolic resin, thermoset polymers, adhesives, coatings, or related chemical manufacturing industries.
- Experience with phenolic resin testing and batch-release procedures will be an advantage.
