Job Title: Design Head – CNC Machine Tools
Location: Mysore, Karnataka
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Design Head to lead our Mechanical Design function for CNC machine tools. The ideal candidate will be responsible for product design strategy, machine development, design team leadership, innovation, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration. This role requires deep expertise in machine tool design, engineering principles, product development, and team management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Mechanical Design department responsible for CNC Turning Centers, Machining Centers, VTLs, and customized machine solutions.
- Drive the complete product development lifecycle from concept design to production release.
- Participate in customer discussions to understand technical requirements and develop innovative machine concepts and solutions.
- Review and approve machine layouts, structural designs, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Guide the design team in machine design, component selection, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design optimization.
- Establish design standards, engineering practices, and design review processes across projects.
- Work closely with Production, Assembly, Purchase, Quality, Application, Service, and Marketing teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Coordinate with suppliers and technology partners for design validation, component development, and technical support.
- Drive product improvements, value engineering, cost optimization, and localization initiatives.
- Implement DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) principles to improve manufacturability and assembly efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with machine performance, reliability, safety, and quality standards.
- Mentor and develop design engineers, team leads, and project engineers.
- Manage project timelines, engineering resources, budgets, and departmental KPIs.
- Lead innovation, new product development, and technology adoption initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- BE / BTech / MTech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10–15+ years of experience in Mechanical Design and Product Development within the CNC Machine Tool industry.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a leadership role managing design teams and engineering projects.
- Strong experience in CNC Turning Centers, VMCs, HMCs, VTLs, or special-purpose machine design.
- Proven track record of successfully developing and launching machine tool products.
