The Rohru Centre is a residential rehabilitation and educational facility that provides comprehensive support services to children and young adults with visual impairment and other disabilities. The centre focuses on education, rehabilitation, independent living, life-skills development, and holistic growth in a safe and nurturing environment.
Position Summary
The Warden is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the residential facilities at the Rohru Centre. The role involves ensuring the safety, well-being, discipline, personal development, and day-to-day care of resident students. The Warden will oversee hostel operations, supervise support staff, coordinate with educators and parents, and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive living environment.
The position requires strong leadership, people management, administrative, and crisis-management skills, along with a commitment to safeguarding and disability inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Residential Facility Management
- Oversee the daily functioning of hostel and residential facilities.
- Ensure a safe, clean, healthy, and well-maintained living environment for all residents.
- Monitor occupancy, room allocation, and residential arrangements.
- Ensure proper implementation of hostel schedules, routines, and guidelines.
- Maintain discipline and order within the residential premises.
- Ensure adequate supervision of students during residential hours.
Student Welfare and Well-being
- Promote the physical, emotional, social, and psychological well-being of residents.
- Monitor students' adjustment to residential life and provide appropriate support.
- Address student concerns, grievances, and behavioural issues in a timely and constructive manner.
- Foster an environment of respect, inclusion, and mutual support among residents.
- Encourage personal responsibility, independence, and positive social behaviour.
Health and Safety Management
- Monitor the health status of students and arrange medical attention when required.
- Maintain records of student health information, medications, and medical appointments.
- Coordinate hospital visits, emergency medical care, and follow-up support.
- Ensure availability of first-aid facilities and emergency contact information.
- Implement safety protocols, emergency preparedness measures, and evacuation procedures.
- Report accidents, incidents, and safety concerns promptly.
Staff Supervision and Coordination
- Supervise Helpers, Caregivers, Peons, and other hostel support staff.
- Assign duties and monitor staff performance.
- Ensure proper staffing arrangements for residential operations.
- Conduct regular meetings with residential support staff.
- Promote teamwork and coordination among all personnel involved in student care.
Student Discipline and Behaviour Management
- Establish and maintain a positive residential culture based on mutual respect and responsibility.
- Address behavioural concerns through counselling, guidance, and corrective measures.
- Maintain records of disciplinary matters and interventions.
- Encourage adherence to centre rules, schedules, and code of conduct.
Parent and Guardian Engagement
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student welfare.
- Inform families about significant developments, achievements, concerns, or emergencies.
- Facilitate parent visits and interactions as per centre policies.
- Participate in parent meetings, counselling sessions, and case reviews.
Coordination with Educational and Rehabilitation Teams
- Work closely with Special Educators, Activity Teachers, therapists, and administrative staff.
- Support implementation of educational and rehabilitation plans within the residential setting.
- Monitor student participation in educational, recreational, and developmental activities.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary planning and review meetings.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain hostel registers, attendance records, incident reports, visitor logs, and inventory records.
- Monitor use of hostel resources and supplies.
- Ensure proper maintenance of hostel facilities, furniture, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Prepare periodic reports related to residential operations and student welfare.
- Support compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Events and Community Life
- Organize residential activities that promote life-skills, recreation, cultural participation, and social development.
- Support celebrations, awareness events, sports activities, and special programs.
- Encourage student participation in community-building activities and leadership opportunities.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in workshops, trainings, outreach activities, and institutional events.
- Support inspections, audits, donor visits, and stakeholder engagements.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Centre Coordinator or Program Manager.
Required QualificationsEssential
- Graduate degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Human Development, Rehabilitation, or a related field.
Preferred
- Postgraduate qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Rehabilitation, or Management.
- Training in child protection, counselling, residential care management, disability inclusion, or rehabilitation services.
Experience Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 3 years of experience in hostel management, residential care, educational institutions, child care settings, rehabilitation centres, or social development programs.
Preferred
- Experience working with children, youth, or persons with disabilities.
- Experience in residential schools, hostels, rehabilitation centres, or NGO-managed facilities.
- Experience supervising staff and managing residential operations.

Safeguarding and Child Protection
The Warden shall strictly adhere to Saksham's Child Protection Policy, Safeguarding Policy, Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Policy, and Disability Inclusion Guidelines.
The Warden bears significant responsibility for ensuring the safety and protection of resident students and must immediately report any concerns relating to abuse, neglect, exploitation, bullying, discrimination, misconduct, or safety risks through established organizational mechanisms.
