Job Summary:-
We are seeking an experienced Metallurgy Engineer for our Sponge Iron Plant. The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and optimizing kiln operations, ensuring product quality, achieving production targets, troubleshooting process issues, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of sponge iron production processes, rotary kiln operations, metallurgical analysis, and quality control practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcess Monitoring
- Monitor rotary kiln operations and critical process parameters.
- Ensure optimum temperature profile, pressure, feed rates, and kiln stability.
- Maintain smooth plant operations to maximize productivity.
Quality Control
- Monitor the quality of raw materials, including iron ore, coal, and dolomite.
- Analyze and control Fe content, Metallization %, Carbon %, and other quality parameters.
- Ensure sponge iron quality meets company and customer specifications.
Production Management
- Achieve daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
- Minimize kiln downtime and improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor production performance and recommend corrective actions when required.
Process Optimization
- Analyze operational data and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Optimize coal consumption, power consumption, and production yield.
- Implement best metallurgical practices to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Laboratory Coordination
- Coordinate with the quality control laboratory for testing and analysis.
- Review laboratory reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor process consistency through regular sample analysis.
Troubleshooting
- Identify and resolve process-related issues such as:
- Ring Formation
- Accretion Build-up
- Low Metallization
- Poor Product Quality
- Kiln Instability
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to plant safety standards, SOPs, and statutory regulations.
- Promote the safe operation of the kiln, cooler, and material-handling systems.
- Participate in safety audits and improvement initiatives.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily production, quality, and process reports.
- Maintain records of operational parameters and plant performance.
- Present performance analysis and improvement recommendations to management.
Team Coordination
- Coordinate with maintenance, electrical, instrumentation, and production departments.
- Guide and support shift engineers, operators, and junior staff.
- Ensure effective communication across departments for smooth plant operation.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in cost-reduction and productivity-enhancement projects.
- Implement process improvements to improve sponge iron quality and plant efficiency.
- Contribute to operational excellence initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of the Sponge Iron (DRI) manufacturing process.
- Expertise in Rotary Kiln operations and process control.
- Understanding of Metallization, Fe Analysis, Carbon Analysis, and Quality Parameters.
- Knowledge of kiln troubleshooting and process optimization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and production reporting.
Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering / Metallurgy.
- Experience in Sponge Iron / DRI Plant operations is mandatory.
